PHILLIES V RED SOX

MONDAY, JUNE 12, 2017, 7 PM AT FENWAY PARK

TV:  NESN, CSN-P

PHILADELPHIA, (21-40).............................................................................BOSTON, (34-28)

JEROD EICKHOFF, RHP, 0-7, 5.15 ERA, 57K

Eickhoff remains stuck in a surprising funk.  He allowed three earned runs
in five innings Wednesday in Atlanta.  He has a 6.75 ERA in eight starts dating
to April 28 after posting a 2.55 ERA in his first four.

BOSTON:

RICK PORCELLO, RHP, 3-8, 4.46 ERA, 78K

The reigning American League Cy Young Award winner's slump
continued in his last start, as Porcello gave up five earned and eight
hits in 6 1/3  innings vs. the Yankees.  The righty leads the AL in hits
allowed (104), and has a 3-8 record and a 4.46 ERA.

Red Sox right-hander Rick Porcello and Phillies right-hander Jerad Eickhoff hope to get back on track on Monday night at Fenway Park.

Porcello, the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, allowed six runs in 6 1/3 innings in his most recent start, last week against the Yankees, and he has a 5.06 ERA in his last six starts.

Red Sox manager John Farrell says that the aggressive bats got the best of Porcello in that outing.

"A lot of first-pitch swings," Farrell said. "He's a strike-thrower, and any time you get those types of pitches coming at you, you're not going to sit around and wait, because they're probably going to throw the ball over the plate."

Porcello is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in two career starts against the Phillies, although he has not faced them since 2015.

Farrell noted that the pitching staff has been working to get Porcello back into last year's form, particularly with one pitch.
"There's been a constant and persistent focus on trying to regain the release and the action to his sinker," Farrell said.

"That's priority No. 1 and has been for him."

Eickhoff is 0-6 with a 6.75 ERA in his last eight starts. Red Sox first-base coach Ruben Amaro Jr. acquired Eickhoff in the Cole Hamels trade with Texas when he was the Phillies' general manager in July 2015.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME

• Howie Kendrick could start his second consecutive game at second base for the Phillies. Kendrick has spent the majority of his career at second, but played there for just the first time this season on Sunday because Cesar Hernandez is on the disabled list with a strained left abdomen.

• The Red Sox are 36-23 all-time against the Phillies, including 17-8 at Fenway. They are 28-12 since 2004.

• Porcello has been struggling to keep players from getting on base -- he leads the Majors with 104 hits allowed.

This is a lousy Phillies team.  The Sox need to take three out of the next four.

And our Sox team is not a good team.Thankfully there are not many good teams in the AL this year.
Sox are 6 games over .500 and no other team that is not in 1st place is better than 2 over .500.
That alone tells the quality in the AL.Without much power to depend on this is what we will see from our team. They are near the bottom of the league in fielding and that adds to the problems they have.Expecting a lot this season as it stands now IMO is dreaming.I agree on 3of 4 but if they want to somehow show they belong as contenders a sweep is what they BADLY need.

In spite of such opposite W/L records, it kinda seems bizarre that Eichoff vs Porcello is no slam dunk of a W.  Our offense struggles against lousy starters.  And Porcello has been stinking up the joint so Philly could put up some runs.  It'll come down to the bullpens... iono

They are indeed putting up runs. This game may be over before the Sox ever get to bat.

The Phillies have lost 5 in a row coming in to tonight's game.  Porcello is making them look like the Yankees.

WHAT the F^CK has happened to Rick Porcello?????
Has already put the Sox in a hole in the top of the first inning.

UNACCEPTABLE

How about Eickhoff for Porcello? Swap plane tickets. And eat half of the bum's salary

I presume Hanley's shoulder is affecting his hitting as well.
