RAYS V RED SOX

THURSDAY, APRIL 5, 2018, AT 2 PM AT FENWAY PARK

TV:  NESN, FOS SUN SPORTS, MLBN, (OUT-OF-MARKET ONLY )

TAMPA, 1-4.............................................................................BOSTON, 5-1

TAMPA:

YVONN, CHIRINOS, RHP, 0-0, 0.00 ERA

It will be a bullpen day for the Rays, but it will also be the first big league start for
Chirinos, who allowed just one hit in four scoreless relief innings in his April 1 debut vs
Boston.  The 24-year-old was primarily a starter in the Minors.

BOSTON:
DAVID PRICE, LHP, 1-0, 0.00, 5K

Coming off a vintage effort in his first start of the season (seven shutout innings),
Price now gets the honor of starting the home opener.  He will face the same (Rays)
as his last start.  Price is 17-5 with a 3.12 ERA lifetime at Fenway.

Another team in this division scored 18 runs (11 and 7) vs the Rays the last two days.  I know it's early and there's a different pitcher, but could be a slight measuring stick of the offense.

Only 3 hits through 8 innings and one of them was luck. Not a recipe for winning. Need a big 9th.

It took nine innings for the bats to warm up and three more to push the deciding run across the plate. Maybe this will be a Hanley year after all.

Took a while for the bats to come alive but better late than never. Poyner has delivered in the early going. Thankfully Cora went with a lefty in the pen.I would not be surprised if it wasn`t  Levangie that told the rookie manager to add him to the roster.

6-1 is very nice.  VERY nice.  But, heck, these bats are eerily familiar to last year's: they don't do much until after the 7th or 8th inning.
Which means Sale and Price will hold an MLB record at the end of this season: most IPs for 2 starters with Top 3 ERAs and less than 20 Ws combined?  ;) :o

The best thing about this game was it went extras.  I was hiking all day and didn't get to the car until about the 7th, so caught a few innings at least!  I just don't get this lack of hitting.  Maybe it's the fact that they hitters have no rhythm since they don't play enough?  Anyhow, they need these bats to come alive very soon.

Carson Smith sucks.  He's given up as many runs as all of the starters.

Had to laugh, I usually watch the games on TV, but got to listen to this one on the radio.  Hanley drives in 2 including the game-winner and WEEI says the "Player of the game" is JBJ!  Maybe they wanted him to feel good?  Sure he had a timely hit, but Hanley was the star of the game.
