I have been rough on Price.  While he still isn't one of my favorite players, he has been tremendous through 6 innings, out dueling Verlander.

I'm always perplexed by Barnes. He has great stuff and no brains. You have the guy 0-2 and you throw the ball 98 mph. I'd be trying to hit the corners before I throw another curve.

DAVID PRICE with the WIN. Kimbrel with the save. Had just enough offense. Never thought the Sox would beat Houston 3 straight in Houston. Cora seems to be pushing the right buttons. On to Tuesday and game 1 of the 2018 WORLD SERIES. GO RED SOX.

Major kudos to David Price for his first post-season win as a starter.

My friends almost won me over about David Price but I never lost confidence in him and we all were rewarded.  He pitched a great game and shoved the Astro bats right up their cocky asses.  And it showed that you don't diss our team and get away with it.  Aaron Judge tried that tack.  HOW DID THAT WORK OUT FOR YOU AND YOUR YANKEES BUB???  Then there was that Bregman character who tried maliciously to embarass our Nathan Eovaldi and got his smart ass and his teammates a free ticket home.  Keep this in mind---Bogaerts, Benintendi, Mookie and Jackie went 0 for 17 and looked like duds at the plate BUT THAT SHOWED WHAT A TEAM WE REALLY KNOW WE HAVE......Moreland, Kinsler, Raffy and, of course, JD had to be an oddball of the big boppers by also getting two hits including a dong.  The best thing about our team is that they are confident, even humble in victory.  I mistook those attrbutes for a lack of fire and toughness, but there was plenty of that.  They just kept it to themselves and took it out to the field with them.  Don't diss this team Dodgers (or Brewers) or you will pay dearly for it.

THIS team that won 108 games in the regular season
is going to the World Series!

AND, even though the Sox seemed to let up at the end of the season
and many on this board thought that was a bad sign - Ha!
THEY ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!

AND WOW!  THIS team played like they did when they were winning
all season.  They found ways to win like they did all season.
THEY ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!

AND our bullpen that was supposed to be our weakest link - was
stronger than the Astros AND Yankees.  Ha!
THEY ARE GOING TO THE WORLD SERIES!

YAHOOOOO!
Our Sox are going to the WORLD SERIES!!!!!!

in his Postseason career with the Astros.

AND our RED SOX scored 4 runs!
TWO home runs!

David Price out dueled Justin Verlander tonight.

SO EXCITED!

"The best thing about our team is that they are confident, even humble in victory.  I mistook those attrbutes for a lack of fire and toughness, but there was plenty of that.  They just kept it to themselves and took it out to the field with them."

SO TRUE, this team plays together as a TEAM.
No egos, team players!
I believe that Alex Cora preached that to them from Day One!

THIS team beat the Houston Astros, the defending World Series Champs in 5 games.
WOW!  AND 3 straight games IN Houston.

Just an amazing team effort.  Everyone picked the Astros because for some reason winning 108 games wasn’t enough.  Well we’re up to 115 and counting.  Can’t imagine either NL team seriously challenging them.

I think part of the love for Houston was for an upstart,  defending champs who knocked off big market teams NYY and LA last year.  Also I think the producers at TBS/TNT , who do a lot of NL Braves games have a dislike for NY, Boston, Philly.  JMO.  Strangely Houston was an NL playoff team 10 years ago.

Embarrassingly, I was one of those people and, yes, I feel a little, shall I say, embarrassed right now.  Wow, did JBJ pick the right time to get hot, if hot is the word.  Hell, he got only THREE hits in those five games BUT WHAT HITS THEY WERE.  There might have been three more dramatic and crucial hits in any ALCS games that I can recall.  Good job Jackie, you shut me up real good.

Today, I make reservations for Boston to see the first two games of the World Series, and maybe stay for the whole series if it comes back to Boston......if I have enough money, which I think I have saved enough for.  No games at Dodger Stadium or in Milwaukee even though in live in the Los Angeles area.  I want to be with a majority of fans who root for the same team as I do.  What a team, what a team …….WHAT A GREAT @#$%&?! TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!

A great team indeed. The 'oh shucks' attitude of JBJ in the post game interview a welcome departure from the typical athlete's pose.

Other than that, I see the board has covered all the angles on the pleasant surprises in the playoffs.

Good to hear from you as well Orwell and even better to know that all is well with Joann and little Dylan.  Your family most certainly is very very big in your life, as it should be, but it would be swell if you could spare just a little time to come back here a few more times than you do.  Anyway, I'll be heading to Boston on Monday and will watch the first two games or stay for the duration in case the Sox come back to Fenway to try and win it all in games six and or seven........if indeed the Series goes that long.  My wife and closest friend says that it won't.

I'm still on a high about this.  Does anyone think whoever wins the NL has a chance?

The Sox won this series in Game 3 when Houston was forced to change it's lineup.  It was then I said Sox in 5 (I had thought it would take 6).  They blinked first and Cora pressed the advantage.  Also heard a few interesting things yesterday.  Apparently once Cora heard about them potentially looking at them in the dugout he started messing with Houston and sending out fake signs.  He had guys in the dugout reacting on pitches that Houston was throwing so they'd think that they compromised their signs.  Real interesting gamesmanship.  Contrast that with Cora who made one postseason adjustment only - he used his starters as relievers in key spots.  Think about it, if Cora had blinked for instance and put Brasier out there to close and Brasier blows it - they are toast.  Some people are now talking about how to move around players for the World Series games in the NL park.  Clearly it means Martinez as an outfield starter and JBJ hits, just like Holt sat the day after he hit for the cycle.

The Sox are now 7-2 in their lat 9 games against two teams who won over 100 games.

That would be go get more offense in the lineup.  I get that.  Do I like it?  Mixed feelings Sea Dog.  Yes, it would help put more offense in the lineup but it could hurt us defensively in the outfield and, face it, we would be taking our best player and best right fielder in the game and moving him to a spot he hasn't played in quite some time.  Again, very mixed feelings about that.

Given my comments about the Astros losing when they changed what they always did to win 100 games by shuffling the lineup, the Sox should also avoid overreacting because they have to play as many as 3 games in an NL park.  The Sox were 16-4 against NL teams and a good number of those, like the three game sweep against division winner Atlanta, were in NL parks.  Sox got where they did by staying consistent.  Cora has a "formula" of sorts as to how his team plays well and 7-2 in the last 9 would confirm that it works, don't mess with it now.  He sat Holt after hitting for the cycle, why not sit JBJ or Beni for a game to get Martinez in the lineup?

Speaking of how they did in that Atlanta series, Atlanta finished 162 games with one fewer win than LA.  Put another way, Tampa Bay, who played over a quarter of its games against teams that won 100 games, finished a game behind the Dodgers in overall record.  The Dodgers played a few games against Houston in the regular season.  So the Dodgers, playing a much easier schedule than the Red Sox, finished 17 games behind them in the standings, i.e. would have been eliminated shortly after Labor Day.

No way I'd ever predict a team to sweep, but I can't see this going more than 5.

Isn't the real answer: Betts to CF, Martinez to RF, and Holt or Kinsler to second?

In a way I wish you were right on your prediction and then, OTOH, I wouldn't get my ultimate wish if that happened.  You see Ted I'm flying out from California tomorrow night on the Red Eye for what I hope is a very enjoyable stay in Boston and have tickets for all four Fenway games...….if the series goes that far.  I have always wanted to see my Red Sox win  the World Series in our ballpark and couldn't afford a return trip there in 2013.  If it goes five I will not get that wish but I can accept that and be pleased anyway....very pleased.   Then I can see the parade, which I have never seen the previous three title runs.  But no matter how you slice it I want the Red Sox to win the World Series in the worst way.  That's all that matters to me at the end of the day.

I feel for you Fred, but my mental health can't take seven games!

Funny tidbit I saw today - the Dodgers have won only one game ever in Fenway, when Cora drove in a run for the Dodgers in a rout of the Sox.

2004---second game of a three game series won by the Red Sox 2-1.
