I never like to see JD out of the lineup.  I remember all too well back in 2017 after Papi retired how devoid we were of that big run producer as so many times our pi tchers got starved for runs while we had a major power outage and Mookie had a crappy year for him.

And another homer to Tellez. E-Rod sucks tonight. Sox down by 6. Pretty much over at this point as the Sox appear to have used up all their offense yesterday.

Have you or anyone else noticed that it seems that every time we have a big blowout win with lots of hits and power we go the next day and have a real drought?  This has happened so many times the past few seasons that you have to wonder just what this team of ours is made of.  Now with Thornshit pitching Cora has decided to mail it in.  Two walks and a hit from the Thorn and we're dead man walking.  Meanwhile the Yankee are beating up on Baltimore the way these choking bastards of ours should be doing to the Blue Jays.

The Sox hit into three DPs.  You can’t blame the manager for that.

In fact I’d like to thank Cora.  It’s very nice of him put in Thornburg to let us know that the game is over and we can do something else with the evening.  Leave him in for the duration of this game, no matter how bad, and then finally release him.

E_Rod is not a tough minded pitcher.  Cora obviously knows that.  ERod can lose  confidence easily.  When the Sox squandered that opportunity of not scoring with the bases full one just knew that the wind would go from E Rod sails.

One thing that totally escapes me is why is Thornburg still on this team.  One has to believe that as soon as Eovoldi is back he will be gone.

I used to think Elk that the reason Thornturd was still on the team was because Dombrowski was embarrassed  that he traded a 30 homer, 100 RBI hitter for this piece of crap.  We can include Henry in that rogue's gallery as well since he was determined to give that third base job back to Fats Sandoval in 2016.  Of course, the owner finally grew a brain and ate the contract while we still lost a power hitter.  Now?  I think he is still with us because we have no one better down on the farm, even though that seems incredulous.  Hell, anybody has to be better than the Tnornturd.

Maybe this team is pathetic Elk.  I mean this seems to happen so often----a breakout game and then one crappy one like tonight.  We've done this enough the past few season; hell, we even did this a few times last season as well.  And you are right about Rodriguez   He seems to lack toughness on the mound.  Tonight he was disgraceful after the third inning.  The man just might be a gutless wonder.

Anybody notice that since I decided not to refer to Bradley as Jackie Bradley Jr. anymore but instead refer to him as Jack Brad, he has hit two homer in the last two games.  Coincidental?  Hell yes, but desperate times calls for desperate measures.  Besides this junior shit and Jackie sounds this guy is a young teenager.  Jack Brad is a man's name so he is that from here on in until  the team finally trades or releases him.

if so, if they can play like these same chumps the balance of the year, we should be raising another banner, no?

Look whom they have played, whom they have beaten and who has beaten them.  So yes against quality teams they have played like chumps and their manager has let them down by his incompetent handling of spring training which resulted in their being improperly prepared to begin the season.  This lack of preparation has produced the current situation we see today, a team struggling to play up to its full potential.

They've played better than they did at the start and are still held back by that tough start.  The bigger issue is that they were on a tear, then split two games that were very difficult with Colorado, lost 2 of 3 at home to the Astros and then got destroyed by a terrible team last night, because they couldn't bring in runs with lots of men on base and the pitcher is an idiot.

There are some very serious flaws on this team, even with the same players, basically because even though the regulars, other than JBJ and of course Leon, are doing okay (although still not mentally sharp), the backups have been awful and Cora's plan works if he can keep moving guys in to matchups.  Starting pitching remains inconsistent.  I don't know who can be counted on in the bullpen.  The good news is if they are behind they're always capable of catching up.  The bad news is if its close, the pen can't be trusted to bring it home.

Maybe they can win a lot of games by 5 or 6 runs.

As far as the inconsistent pitching, Cora has announced Porcello today, fine, and then his choice of the Velazquez experiment on Thurs (Ryan Webber is a backup plan).

Right Ted---on the name calling you are entirely correct, but I have trouble respecting an opinion where a poster tries to convince us that black is white.   I have been jousting with that guy here and especially on another board.  I would like very much if he would ignore me so I can ignore him.  Unfortunately there is no ignore button on this board so I am stuck listening to his nonsense. I may just have to put my own ignore button on.  There was one other person here who I had trouble with and we no longer communicate and that's the way I would wish it with that karp guy.

for me, step 1 is having the Sox play well and stay healthy. over the past 25 games or so, they are playing very well. Price now back, with Eavoldi, Wright and Johnson not that far off, should also deepen and improve the rotation/pen

Marco Hernandez playing well could return potential BP help in a deal

team needs to continue playing well. I believe they will

I fail to understand why and how that bothers some posters

The Sox may be winning games against the likes of the Blue Jays, Orioles and the Tigers but it is an exaggeration to say that they are playing well.  They are playing barely adequate baseball against a bunch of weak teams. The position players mostly aren't playing cohesive baseball.  Their style of play looks largely distracted to me, lacking focus.  Maybe when Eovoldi et al return things will change.

At the end of May the Sox have reached a show-me point in the season.  Nine critical games against the contenders Houston, Indians, and Yanks.  Sox are now 6 games in arrears of NYY in the loss column.  If we split those games, for the greater good.  If we lose all those series, we could be way out of the race and/or battling Indians for the last WC team, as we're in a tie wirh Indians today.

team needs to continue playing well. I believe they will

I fail to understand why and how that bothers some posters

It only bothers me when people don't look at the whole picture r-karp as you're doing now.  Sure the Red Sox have won six of their last ten games but the Yankees have won nine of their last ten so we have lost three games in the standings to them. WE HAVE LOST GROUND, NOT GAINED IT.  So to me that means going ssix and four or 14-6 is totally inadequate because of our miserable beginning.  It is us who have to 9-1 over the next ten games or 17-3 over the next 20 otherwise w e're either running in place or running backwards.  Sorry but that's the price we have to pay for our dismal start and Cora's ridiculous Spring Training program that he put on last March.  We're still reaping the whirlwind for that blunder even though I wish it were not so.

You'll never catch someone on a streak, especially when they can sweep the O's for 4.  But rkarp is right about them playing better.  You have to play everyone on the schedule and the just took 3 out of 4 on the road, only losing a pitching meltdown.  However, I agree that the upcoming stretch is important, starting tonight.
