That's a tough pitching matchup.  Stroman dominated us last week in Boston.

This lineup is another reason why I believe the manager's thought process, assuming that he has one, is muddled.  Sale is known to prefer to pitch to Leon but Manager Neuman has Vazquez catching him instead (Almost in spite IMO)   So tonight he starts Leon.  I hope Neuman has a rationale for starting Leon over Vazquez.  If so I'd love to know what it is.

I'll take a guess, Leon batting left against the righty.  But Vaz is still in the lineup batting right.  So now I'm confused.

Vaz is DHing JD is playing left and Beni is riding the pines.  Beni is 6 for 15 against Stroman. Unless Beni is injured this is managerial incompetence.

Al I want is a win tonight so we can take the series and say to myself.......HEY FRED, WE W ON  THE SERIES TONIGHT.   Think that is too much to ask from this outfit of our team?.

Apparently not because we somehow came back from a big deficit and won in the ninth inning 8-7.  So good to win a game in the last inning instead of losing them which we had become very proficient in the past few months.  So I got my July 4th wish.  Very pleased even though I'm not kidding myself......we are not going anywhere this season at this rate, but we can all hope.

Now we learn that Stroman isn't starting for the Jays.  I may have jumped on the manager too quickly.

Beni also may be fighting an injury.  He is complaining of heavy legs.

Raffy with a quick dinger. 5 pitches into the game. Sox up 1-0.

Leon has caught Sale at least 8 out of his last 10 starts. Hasn't been a world beater. Had a couple good games but has been average at best in that span.

Velazquez not looking sharp. Minimal damage, though.

Another hr. The guy has hit 5 in last 7 games. Not bad for a under 200 hitter.

Can you believe what we're seeing tonight.  Between that bum Velasquez who should have been given his walking papers last season and this Colton Brewer, who even has trouble throwing a straight ball to first base on a come backer, we have pretty much mailed another game in while Cora looks on with that stunned and stupid look on his face.  Time for us to back up the truck.  This is getting downright embarrassing to watch and later to read in the papers.  The way we're going we're bound to be a sub 500 team in a matter of days.  There is no life in this time, no sense of urgency and I'm betting not much in the way of team spirit.  There are many reasons why this team is the throws of a complete meltdown and they are all on the mark, but this debacle started last March in ST and it keeps on giving.  Nothing to do but write the season off and get Henry and Dumbrowski to start retooling by putting some of these overpayed butts up for sale and hope some team bites on them so we can get some prospects back and build for 2023.

Chavis with a 3-run dinger. Sox up 7-6. After going 2-2 on 4 pitches that were nowhere near the plate, I was expecting a K.

Normally I'd question Cora bringing Workman back out after he gave up one lead, but I can't point to anyone else who would be a better choice.

Good comeback win and I am very pleased, but I would also like to ask if I have the right to feel confident that we can go on a winning streak now?  I'd like some reinforcement in the confidence department if there are any of my friends out there who really thinks this game was a turning point.  We've been disappointed so many times this season  that I and I would guess many of you are gun shy and very doubtful.

Ain't happenin', Fred. This "comeback" win tonight was against the lowly Jays. We barely won. This team does not have what it takes to compete with TB or NYY. Simple as that. We will not be playing October baseball.

If we do end up in the post-season and do well, I will certainly come back and enjoy a crow-eating post. But I don't see that happening.

Agree.  There are just too many holes,  2B, 1B, weak catcher mumbojumbo, pitching in disarray.  These are the things you address in January, not July, if you want to be a contender.  In the end Cora will be looking at some new bench coaches as some of you have said.  This crew simply cannot be allowed to lay the groundwork again next spring.  And maybe the best solution is ship out some down in the dumps stars for some fresh returns right now while their value is worth a good return deal.

Absolutely correct. Thinking otherwise only turns a fan into a dreamer.

Chavis is proving himself more than adequate as a defensive 1at baseman who like Devers will blossom if the manager doesn't screw him up by moving around the infield.

The real issue is pitching.  If I were DD  I would be searching for the next Dave Duncan to revamp the club's pitching regime from soup to nuts.  The bullpen obviously needs a major overhaul.  Some where along the way they have to re emphasize pitching to contact and how to do it properly.  Pirelli was an excellent pitcher when he emphasized his sinker to induce ground ball outs.  The worst thing that happened to him is he now wants to strike everyone out.
