Clearly Moreland is hurt or would be batting against the righty, but I'm surprised Holt is out in favor of Kinsler, although I do think middle infield defense suffered with Holt in at 2B. Glad to see Leon is out. Hopefully his last game will be when he catches for Sale and the Sox win the series in 5.

Now don't get too carried away with this Sox in five Ted. I know you want the glass to be half full but I can see a leak from three thousand miles away.

Well a 1-0 lead after Mookie and Beni hits is a good sign!

As 3rd base goes, so goes our RED SOX...… Errors by NUNEZ & DEVERS will dictate where the SOX end up...… & please, don't put BAD KNEES out there as they will be exposed for what they are !! thumb_d iono iono iono
Need a hit now, take advantage of their errors.
Needed more than 2 there but it's a start.
Xman sure took his time on the ground ball. Needed to get it and throw. Poor execution.
Way to hold that lead, Price. ::) :o
Sox score 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.
TELL ME WHY with bases loaded - only 1 run scored on the Devers single.
WHY didn't Xander try to score from second base?
Score could have been 3 - 0.
Well, Price gives it back.
Sox 2 - Astros 2
Going to the bottom of the second inning.

I have been complaining about Xander's glove tap before throwing for years. That should have been drilled out of him years ago.

Price threw only 1 bad pitch that inning. Xman being lazy let 1 guy on and Springers hit was a jam shot bloop. Can't do anything about that.
Warning track power again, the lack of energy of the Sox hitters is telling.

Price had to be disappointed with both the team leaving them loaded and his defense behind him failing. Sox look flat.
Xander should have been charged with an error (they never would on that type of mental error). Those runs were unearned by Price IMO
AND with two outs and one man on base -
Price gives up a 2 run home run.
Astros 4 - Sox 2
Going to the bottom of the 3rd inning.
DAMN
Is the fat lady warming up her vocal chords yet.
So now what are the excuses for Price? The fact remains he had two outs and a 2 run lead and gave up a damaging hit. And again this inning he had two outs and gives up a two run dinger. He cannot get the out when it's crucial.
Can not defend Price not do I want too. I don't care for him as a ballplayer.
Bases loaded, one out. Maybe, just maybe, they get a run here. Or a GIDP.
Nice AB Kinsler.
Kinsler is over matched. Cole makes him look bad real bad.
Way to go, JBJ. Finally a clutch hit. With a little bit of help from the wall. Can't believe some fan didn't interfere with that one.
Fenway crazy bounce helps sox.
Fat lady can sit back down for now.
JBJ - bases clearing double.
Sox 5 - Astros 4.
NOW let's see if our pitching can hold serve . . .
Kinsler looks lost in two at bats with the bases loaded. Not really sure why he's in there.
Glad JBJ came through, need a shutdown inning followed by some pop by the top of the lineup.
Since Devers is playing 3rd, Holt should be in against Cole. Some one in the analytics dept is either asleep or Cora ignored Kinsler's record against Cole.
Wow, a clean inning. Very cool.
WOW Price has a shut down inning.
Sox are putting on a fine display of warning track power tonight. Lots of almost-nearly-but-not-quite-hardly hits.
Every now and then Devers comes up big. He's lucky Pearce can stretch, though.
Good move by Cora to lift Price, not thrilled that it is Barnes but given the shaky pen, Cora has few options
So Price can't get this win even if the Sox prevail, right?
Right Price can not get the win but Barnes could.
Good job by Price. Now the Sox need to hold the Astros and score more runs.

Good?
I swear that I am watching the Astros announcers on TBS.
Uh oh. Not good news about Sale.
Another inning gone. So far, so good with the BP.

Uh oh. Not good news about Sale.
You can not pitch in a short sleeve shirt in 40 degree weather for a couple hours and expect not to come down with some kind of bug!
That worked as well as if Beni had bunted
JD has to do something.
JD can not do anything against the breaking ball. But then again the breaking ball giveth then taketh away
Another gift run. I'll take it.
Amazing Betts scored without anyone hitting the baseball, walk wild pitch pass ball pass ball.
Betts scored in spite of the disappearing JD Martinez.
Sale made the rest of us sick, too.
Damn, that was strike 3. Got the out anyway.
Kinsler looked absolutely pathetic at the plate tonight
Moreland with a hit. And then Leon in to pinch run. I realize why Cora is doing that, but Leon pinch running is still funny.

I would have thought someone else would run, even though Leon would come in at the bottom of the inning. One of those weird moves that scare me.
Where was this team last night?

Leon is actually slower than he looks:)

Last night the Astros pitching threw more off speed pitches. Tonight the Astros pitchers except for McCullars threw more fastballs IMO
One down.
Kimbrel is going to make it interesting.
Can't just be clean. Always with the drama.
Geez, c'mon Kimbrel. Dammit.
Kimbrel is bad for your health.
Whew. Close but no cigar. Kimbrel has to make everything a nail-biter.
Once again Kimbrel test our nerves
AND the Red Sox win 7 - 5.
Craig Kimbrel never makes it easy.
Sox up 7 - 4.
He gets two quick outs - then double, RBI single
AND then, the final out.
PHEW!
ONE A PIECE!
Strange - Price gives up 4 runs and the Sox win.
Sale gives up 2 runs and the Sox lose.
I KNOW the bullpen.
TONIGHT, the bullpen did their job!
SOX finally hand the Astros their first loss in the postseason.

I mentioned Price earlier - he had some poor defense behind him but kept them in the game. Barnes came in and looked liked midseason Barnes, which is good to see.
The Sox scored with hits lower in the lineup and still not getting much out of the top guys. They have a good chance to start hitting in Houston. Weakest link right now clearly is Kimbrel.
BTW, Kinsler and Holt have combined for 6 Ks.

DEFINITELY - they came out swinging the bat well.
Barnes with the win. Kimbrel with the save. Better hitting tonight. Not sure what were going to do at 2nd base. Not much hitting (for that matter contact) coming from there so far this series. Guess can just flip a coin and put someone there. On to Tuesday at 5pm Eastern.
Argh. 5:09PM Eastern is a shitty time to be starting a game. I'll miss the first few innings at least.
Pats squeak a win tonight, too.

I see what you mean mark but would have liked if he sent in Eovaldi in to pinch run instead????? You know where that went two years ago in LA-------Hey, why is John Farrell did out of a job. Think that might had a little something to do with it?

I'd trade tonight for last night any day. Still, tonight is not indicative of what a team that wants to get in the World Series looks like. Better than last night but still we need to sharpen up on all fronts---better clutch hitting, solider defense, good pitching and some real accomplishments from JD and Benny. Then, again, Houston didn't look like a world beater tonight either and last night it more our blunders than their drumfire play. We just might make a real series of this after all-----maybe, possibly, hopefully.

Well one thing they had better not do is try to get smart by putting Nunez at second. If he can't play third he sure as hell can't play second. We can go with Holt when we face a left hander and keep Kinsler in against lefties. Those two played pretty well until this series. No panic. We'll be fine there. It is the bullpen, the hitting and the energy and commitment of the team that should be our overriding concern in my opinion.
We got it done tonight, whatever it took. Barnes deserves a special mention.
& THAT Boys & Girls was a MUST WIN..... Now on to HOUSTON, "as 3rd base goes, so goes our RED SOX!!" thumb_u thumb_u thumb_u
Need to get Sale healthy ---- period. Was in Boston overnight for a stomach ailment. Thank the gods we picked up Eovaldi. Rick gets the ball Tues, which I think works for us with Verlander and Cole used up.
But alas Eovaldi gets the call on Tues. Hopefully Kuechel continues his struggles vs Sox (9.15 ERA in 4 starts).
