Title: GAME #33, BOSTON RED SOX AT MILWAUKEE BREWERS
Post by: Bear on May 10, 2017, 05:12:31 AM
RED SOX V BREWERS

WEDNESDAY, MAY 10, 2017, 8:10 PM AT MILLER PARK

TV:  NESN, FSWI

BOSTON, (17-16)...............................................................................MILWAUKEE, (17-15)

BOSTON:

KYLE HENDRICKS, RHP, 0-1, 13.50ERA, 1K

Kendricks gave up six runs on eight hits in four innings on Thursday in a
loss to the Orioles.  It was his first Major League start since 2015 after he
spent last season in Triple-A.

MILWAUKEE:

CHASE ANDERSON, RHP, 2-0, 2.86ERA, 30K

Anderson will pitch against his 25th different opponent  when he
draws the Red Sox for the first time.  In his three starts at home this
season, Anderson has held opponents to a .206 average.

Red Sox, Brewers starters eyeing rebounds

Boston's Kyle Kendrick and Milwaukee's Chase Anderson will aim to bounce back at Miller Park on Wednesday, when the Red Sox are expected to feature a couple of additions to their starting lineup.

After being left out of the lineup for three consecutive games, slumping center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is expected back for Boston on Wednesday, and Hanley Ramirez is poised for his first action in the field all season with a start at first base.

"Jackie, like many players, goes through a little ebb and flow in the season. He had a good work day today," Red Sox manager John Farrell said Tuesday. "We'll get him back in the lineup. He's a very good player. And he's a pivotal player for us for many reasons, both defensively and the year he had last year offensively."

Entering Boston's Interleague series at Miller Park, Bradley was hitting .140 since coming off the DL on April 21.
While his production is down from last season, Bradley Jr. could present challenges to an unfamiliar Brewers squad, according to Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell. Before this week, the Brewers and Red Sox had not met since 2014 at Fenway Park.

"[Interleague opponents are] the teams that you know the least about for sure, that's as much as anything what makes it challenging," Counsell said. "It's one of those series where you're going out there and you're playing and seeing a lot of these guys for the first time."

Ramirez is likely to man first base in place of Mitch Moreland, who has started there in each of Boston's first 32 games. The 33-year-old Ramirez, who was not in the lineup for Tuesday's series opener, has reached base safely in 13 consecutive games with five home runs and 10 RBIs. Wednesday's game will be the first time he'll play defense since last season.
Kendrick (0-1, 13.50 ERA), searching for his first win of the season, gave up six runs on eight hits in four innings to the Orioles Thursday. Anderson (2-0, 2.86 ERA) is coming off of back-to-back no-decisions in which he gave up four runs in each start.

THREE THINGS TO REMEMBER ABOUT THIS GAME

• Of the current Brewers, only Ryan Braun has faced Kendrick; he is .364 with two home runs and four RBIs in 11 at-bats against him.

• Anderson has given up just one homer in 34 2/3 innings this season. He'll face a Red Sox squad that went yard eight times in two wins over the Twins on Saturday and Sunday.

• Ramirez has been one of the Majors' best sluggers since the beginning of last season when attacking the opening pitch of an at-bat. He has the 12th-highest average exit velocity (93.5 mph) and the fifth-highest slugging percentage (1.031) among big leaguers.

The once deep farm system has been downgraded as we wait for the new acquires to show up healthy enough to contribute, and all of that is on the  G M  DD .....

Let's see if the Sox can get out the first inning without being a couple of runs down.

Kendrick looked OK against Baltimore the first time through the lineup.  After that he looked like a dud.  I wonder if Frumpy Farrell will have at least someone stretching out in the bullpoen ready to throw when the roof falls in on Kedy as it most certainly might.  We need to hit tonight and Bradley, the fair haired boy of Farrell, has to start earning his keep.  He has been nothing short of shitty since the season opened.  Shades of 2014.  Wake up Jacikie and help us win one tonight.

Pedroia with a base running screwup. He wasn't that far off 3rd and should have gone back. Maybe he lost sight of the ball.

Geez, OB is repetitive. How may times do we have to hear about Thames playing in Korea?

Mark, my wife and I had a bet before the game about how many times we were going to hear about Korea.  O' Brien drives us crazy.

Game over. Vaz screws up, Hembree is suddenly useless, and the Sox can't do a thing right.

It's all coming to root tonight.  Bad starting pitching, bad relief pitching, LOBsters....sound like a team going anywhere soon?  Oh, they're going to 17-16.

Sox pretty much blow a bases loaded, no outs chance by Vaz hitting into a DP. Vaz hasn't done much to help this game out. They did get a run.

I'm going to Boston to see the Red Sox retire David Ortiz' number and will stay for their three game series with my wife's Angels.  Then you will never see me in Boston the rest of the year, nor perhaps in Anaheim when the Sox come out to Anaheim.  It is only May 10 but I will make my concession tonight.  This  team is going nowhere.  They are listless, lazy, poorly coached, and totally lacking in fundamentals.  What's worse they are led by the worst manager in baseball.  I hate to say it but this team stinks from almost top to bottom and when the Brewers sweep them tomorrow it will come full circle from April of 2014 when they opened their home season getting swept by that team and will get it done to them again.  We are totally leaderless and only rarely can we come back from a deficit.

No use hoping that the team wakes up, they replace Farrell and the team starts playing with some urgency.  Perhaps a sign of the times in that horseshit announcer we have.  O'Brien is a worthless boring non-entity who fits in well with Prune Face's idea of what a team in Boston should be.  Consider the loyalty and fervid emotions Red Sox fans show and then contrast that with their announcer and manager.  This organization has become one big constipation and I am already sick of them.  I have never wished for football season before......this year I do.  And, friends, Farrell will never be fired until the team is sold.

The bullpen is getting abused badly. Last two games neither starter has finished 5 innings.

Fred, while I think we (all) agree they are rudderless, uninspired, they DO have the talent on that roster.  I don't know what it will take to wake them up.  The season is far from over but there's no spark in that clubhouse.  And that falls on Farrell's head.

Agreed. It's time to replace Farrell. Past time, really. Letting Lovullo get away was a major league bad decision.

I'm sure only a few more times during today's game.  I think he's just awful.  Plus it's funny to hear Remy patiently correct him often.

I guess we can say, at least they've been hitting.  Last night was the season in an nutshell.  Bottom of the rotation is putrid.  The fielding is ridiculously bad.  Baserunning isn't very good.  But they are totally incapable of hitting with men on base.  Were there 3 DPS last night?  It's pathetic.

Add to that the horrible broadcasting by O'Brien and it's just tough to watch!  They had an interesting stat on NESN this morning though, comparing the top of the rotation (Sale, Porcello and E-Rod) and they are 6-7 but with a 2.3 or so ERA and all sorts of good stats other than wins.  The real shocker is that the rest of the rotation is just awful by stats and they are 5-7, nearly equally effective.

Farrell needs to figure out something and fast.  One thing he can do is maybe flip Bogey back to first in the order as he's a pure singles hitter now and has no pop. He's hitting, just not with any power.

By what you wrote my friend I think you know what a first step to wake us up might be.  Then, again, who knows?  Maybe the so-called experts overrated this team from the get-go.  But reading your missive I guess you still believe it can get turned around and I applaud you for being optimistic in the midst of what's been happening.

Not patting myself on the back but I did not see this team to be what the experts claimed .I thought they would be in contention since the division seemed wide open.I am still not convinced the Yanks will be like this all season with so many kids .Last year Sanchez was like what Judge is doung and the pitchers caught up with him and he hit something like .206 in September.
