The O's come into this series on a hot streak.  Won their last 5.  We've dropped last 2.  About the only thing you can say, streaks have a way of coming to an end.

It would be swell if he could make that happen starting tonight, that is if we could combine solid pitching, strong hitting and sound defense with no blunders from the dugout.  I do not want to be in last place again this season.

This game just shows just how non competitive the Red Sox team is. Bloom has not put together a pitching staff or defensive team that is even mediocre.

And in an alternate universe Bloom was on WEEI Friday talking about how the team was competitive and geared up for the race to the playoffs.  This guy is either a psycho or totally incompetent in a big market atmosphere.

"These guys are engaged, they are battling,” Bloom explained, per WEEI. “And the fact that the schedule is tough. … You talk about Toronto (Blue Jays) and Texas (Rangers), we wanna play Toronto and Texas. Obviously, we’ll see how this series goes, we gotta play our best, but to do what we wanna do, you wanna play the teams that are ahead of you. That’s how you gain ground."

That was ugly.

Looking onward to the off-season and next year, we can't do this with Valdez as a 2B. We was involved in two more defensive miscues last night before I turned it off. The throw from Verdugo was thrown right to his hat. He missed the ball. Barely ticked the top of Valdez's glove. No chance to even think about holding that second run from coming in. They gave Verdugo an error on the bobble, but I'm betting it was Valdez's miss that actually caused that run to score the batter to reach 3rd.

The second miscue was that slow hit ball to 1B. This was not Valdez's fault so much because Casas' throw was too close to the runner and caught Story blocked in no-man's land. Valdez goofed a little bit by either not chasing the runner back to 1st a tiny bit more or to throw to first right away and hope for the best. I think taking the lead runner was probably the best play. This is a coach-able situation and was run well by the base-runner. I see the scorer changed his mind and removed the error from Casas.

Some bad ball-strike calling again. OB and Merloni mischaracterized the current Minor League experiments by combining two different ones. At least on the AAA scene. The pitch challenge is for when the umpire calls the games. The automated pitch zone is simply that. Automated with sensors. I'm seriously digging the latter. The umps relay the call right away as if they made the decision themselves. A fan not knowing the system in place would not know otherwise. I've not seen enough of it obviously, but I am in absolute favor of the automated strike zone calling.

Gain ground??????  Is he shitting me?????  What ground have we gained for the vast part of the season?  Every step forward has been a step and a half backward.  Psycho or incompeptent the guy the guy has got to go, and for that matter so does Cora. Once again he played his newest love child Valdez who is about as shitty as they come as a defender and probably even dumber than that.  If Cora is back next season, you can bet Valdy will be and will be in the lineup.  What now Prune Face; haven't  you seen enough to know that with those two bums leading our team we are doomed for another couple of seasons at least.  Empty the trash Henry; this is your doing.

I can't comprehend the decision making process that involves trading for an up the middle player who cannot play defense. Then again, there's so much they've done and NOT done the past few years that it seems like a nit.

Baghdad Bloom strikes again. Maybe in other baseball markets people would buy the crap he's selling, but not Red Sox fans.

Carabis was on Masarati's show last week.  He spoke with a couple folks at Fenway, and they think Bloom might be gone.
