Maybe the altitude was affecting the Sox in Denver? How does a team that craps out against the lowly Rocks do so well against the Yankees?

Yeah, I hear ya, Fred.

Have you guys seen the news on two of the young pitchers the big boys have been trying to get? The fireballer from Oakland broke a pinky in his non throwing pitching hand due to a mni hissy about having to work out after his outing. Also, Crochet from Chicago says he will not pitch in the post season unless he gets a contract extension prior to doing so. Glad we didn't get these two. (I think)

The Mets got Stanek from Seattle for their #30 ranked prospect (OF). Stanek is that 101MPH guy, but ERA over 4.30 or something.

Orioles traded #10, #17 and one additional prospect for Zach Efflin, the guy that used us to drive up a deal with the Rays.

I like the Dodger's move in this one. Swing for the fences for a 17 year old kid. Might strike gold or might be washing poop off their feet. Better than getting some 5th year AA OF'er with zero chance of ever making the big club.

I do like the move for the Red Sox unless this kid ends up being gold. Maybe the coaches can figure out his consistency issue and get in some decent starts.

I think my view on not signing Paxton was that I was steamed we didn't at least try to keep him. If he signed for a 1 year $7M deal with LA, he wanted out of the Beantown circus(understandable), he wanted to pitch on a WS contender(understandable), Breslow low-balled him or we had zero interest for his services. It was end of January. We knew we screwed the FA pooch by this time.

We could use a win tonight, but, then again, we could have used one Wednesday too.  The Yankees want revenge on us since we have been fortunate to play well against them, especially in the later innings. What we don't need is to get swept as we did with the Dodgers and our inept play in two of our games with the Rockies.

We didn't give much away but we didn't get much in return.  If Paxton was so  good we should have signed him in the off season last year.

No Arozarena type deal, but Sox picked up James Paxton after he was DFA'd at LA.  The return piece was Moises Bolivar to LA.  I think Paxton is on a $7 mil contract for the Dodgers, for which we'll pay part of that.

MLB.com/RedSox site features an article of Breslow stating that he still believes in the team and is hunting SP/RP/RHB types for the a playoff push.

Seattle made a move getting Randy Arozarena from Tampa for a pair of A- Tampa's top-30 prospects (#'s 12 and 22) with 2 & 3 years left before Rule-5 comes into play. Both players having decent years. Not a great haul in terms of MLB ready talent, but Arozarena is not exactly lighting it up this season.

The only other noteworthy deal is one the Red Sox are likely paying attention to as it helps to define the cost of mid-level relievers. The Marlins traded AJ Puk to the D-Backs what is now the Marlins #4 and #19 prospects. A 3B/1B in AAA having a good season and an OF who just got a promotion to AA. Puk has a large ERA, but that was the Marlins trying to make him a starter earlier in the year when all the injuries hit them. That resulted in an ERA up near 8.00. He's been just over 2.00 since the BP with 2 more years control.Last two years were close to 60 games each year with ERA's in 3's. Looks to be a solid 6th-7th inning type.

So that's the price for a proven 6th-7th inning reliever with a sub 4.00 ERA and two years control. A decent, near MLB ready CI headlining the return like Niko Kavadas or Blaze Jordan, along with a middling+ A+/AA OF'er like McDon. Not great, but not horrible.I think we'd like to get more for a pair of top-30 unless I'm under-valuing Puk.
