We will really be challenged tonight as we face perhaps the best pitcher in baseball in Jacob DeGrom and that unbelievable 0.31 ERA.  It starts with Pivetta pitching one of his very best games and the hi tters taking advantage of whatever opportunities come their way.  That is why last night's game was so important.  It showed what solid starting and relief pitching can result in while the hitters mark time with their inconsistency.  While is is true that many teams in the Majors are having trouble scoring runs so far, and some like the Dodgers and Yankees are among them, they do have on paper more experienced pitchers than we do so it is important for our hitters to start getting their stuff  together

Good to see Verdugo back in there after the hammy deal.  Also hoping Vaz breaks out of the mild slump he has gotten into.

Sea Dog 23

Yes, Vaz answers the bell with a double and a run in.  1-0 now in bottom of the 2nd.

Wow, what a pitching performance. Hats off to all of them, but especially to Barnes. We've given him a lot of grief here, but he seems to be turning things around. 3 k's to end a super-tight game. Well done.

Red Sox beat the Mets 1 - 0.
Scored one run against deGrom
AND the Sox pitchers kept the Mets scoreless.

Matt Barnes pitches a 1-2-3 strikeouts bottom of the 9th!

YAHOOOOOOO

Yes, indeed!
deGrom allowed ONLY one run
AND our pitchers Pivetta, Whitlock, Ottavino and Barnes
allowed NO runs.

One of the best team wins in a long time.  Everyone did what they needed to do to beat the best pitcher in the game.

AND Christian Vazquez IS a good, caring man.
The way he immediately held onto the umpire when
he had been hit by a pitch - impressed by his compassion
and quick action.

I hated to miss this game, big time. Sure enough, it looks like it was a gem. I'm going to make it a point to watch a Degrom game next week. I still have not seen him pitch.

I know the last thing MLB wants is the 1968 - 1970 pitcher dominance thing while trying to bring fans back. That, and maybe the hitters will figure out that they are being exposed.Dave Kingman's body of work doesn't look so one sided these days. LOL

Anyhow, go Sox!!!

Sea Dog 23

That was a win-win for Cora and the team for sure.  First trip this week into an NL park without the DH.  That with only three bench players to pinch-hit, and it worked out,  they really pulled the right strings.

longgame

Can't say much more than has already been said.  Great pitching.  They hung in there and got a run off deGrom which in itself is something.  What a game!

You love winning these close games even if you are a nervous wreck by the ninth inning.  I augers well for the team's confidence to b able to outplay, outpitch and outscore a tough opponent while facing arguably the best pitcher in baseball.  We also got a break of sorts today as the Orioles beat the Yankees in 10 and TB lost so we can pick up a little ground IF the team responds in a big way tonight in Texas.  Martin Perez owes himself, the Red Sox and the fans the very best he's got tonight.
