RED SOX V MARLINS
MONDAY, APRIL 3, 2018, 6 PM AT MARLINS PARK
TV: NESN, FS-F
BOSTON, 4-1...............................................................................MIAMI, 2-3
BOSTON:
CHRIST SALE, LHP, 0-0, 0.00, 9K
The ace was nearly unhittable in his first start, allowing one hit while striking out
nine over six innings. Sale has pitched just once in Miami, giving up eight hits and five
runs over 6 2/3 innings in a loss in 2016.
MIAMI:
JOSE URENA, RHP, 0-1, 11.25 ERA, 2K
Urena had a tough opener against the Cubs, allowing 4 runs in 4 innings,
surrendering 2 homers and hitting 3 batters. The right-hander looks to bounce back
against the Red Sox. He's had success in his career at home, posting a 4.18 ERA

JBJ plays while Mookie sits. Someone should have told Alex that the Sox have 3 out of the next 6 games. Acting as a rookie manager for sure. Maybe he thinks he is still in Houston watching AJ Hinch work with a LOADED LINEUP.

Probably wanted to play both his outfielders who are hitting below .100. Beni at .067 & JBJ at .083.

LOL. JBJ is a total disaster with not much hope of improving on his 2017 stats.
Not the best inning for Sale. 27 pitches. Ouch.
Not a typical Sale inning.27 pitches but 2 Ks.
Helluva catch by JBJ.
Sale needed that 14 pitch inning. Count now at 57.
If Cora sticks to the 6-inning plan he's used so far, then Sale will make it easily. Can't say I'm a fan of that plan.

Nice DP. Sale's strike zone appears to be considerably narrower than Urena's.
JDM is no JBJ when it comes to fielding.
The reason why he needs to DH far more than play the field. The guy is not an all-around player by any means.Sox gave him the $$$$$c to HIT PLAIN AND SIMPLE
Need this run.
So happy Alex played JBJ over Mookie.
Ah, the ol' GIDP. JD has learned well how to fit into the Red Sox lineup. sigh

Another ND for Sale despite a well pitched game.

WOW, shame/waste !!! thumb_d thumb_d iono iono iono
Changes are coming soon.At the July deadline.
Good job by Poyner.
Wicked pitch by Smith to get the big K.
Smith and Poyner (sounds like a steakhouse) both done good.
Quick! Take a picture!! JBJ got a hit!!!
Argh. Blew that one. Or not?
Nope, out. Geez.
WTF. Beni should have swung at that. Two base running outs in one inning. Sweet.
One thing that's been a sure failure so far, in spite of the fact that they've been winning, is the manager's inability to manage a lineup. First of all, guys like Betts may need an extra day off every couple of weeks, but certainly not right now with games every other day. Second, JBJ needs the day off more than Mookie. Third, they need to replace Febles right now, he's been a disaster as 3B coach. But really, what the heck is up with this freaking team and their inability to hit? They're facing the worst of the NL, can they maybe come up with a hit in extras?
Sox can't catch a break or manufacture one.
Finally. Beni drives in Nunez. And Nunez doesn't get tagged out at home.
HanRam with a scorcher right back to the pitcher. Cannot catch a break.
More of the same I see. DeadBats can't give run support to Sale. ::) I hope we can hold on to this lead.....
Nothing is ever easy.
Meatball Matt walking batters is not a good way to end this game.
Ugh, Barnes blows it. On we go to more innings.
Throw a strike ya bum!
Perhaps a little less Frank Sinatra, etc.
in the locker room and more concentration
on ball playing.
We are not the Astros of 2017
Yet another GIDP.
Hanley makes them pay for IBBing Beni. Maybe now they can hold a 2-run lead.
Over at last. Sox come home with a 5-1 record.
The Yankees scored more against Tampa Bay today than we did in 4 games. But Stanton got booed as he struck out 5 times! :losers

That's the bottom line. I'll take 5-1 to start the season on the road. No problemo. thumb_u

Not much solace in being taken to limit and beating 2 potential cellar dwellers. Dumb move by the rookie manager benching Mookie so he could have a day of rest while 24 hours later he would be resting on a scheduled day off.

JD Martinez not very happy in the dugout that Mookie replaced him defensively...
Apparently, JD feels he is the same level as a defensive player as Mookie. It would be an insult if he asked Mookie if he could borrow his glove. The guy simply is not good in the field

That could be a budding problem, but one that would be solved by a better outfield lineup on a daily basis (i.e. bench Bradley).

I keep going back & forth on J B J, meaning, I would keep him unless it was a BLOCKBUSTER, my gosh, he should get at least one hit a game !! iono iono
