Eovaldi's at the point where he needs to prove he can work out of the pen.   He's been a disaster his last 2 starts.   He and Pomeranz will duke it out for the long relief role.

Eovaldi digging an early hole for himself. Sox down 3-0 already. Still not out of the inning. We'll make it to the post season, but we won't go far with this pitching staff.

Loooong rain delay here. Eovaldi is surely done.

We're back. As expected, Eovaldi is done, but Pom-pom is in a jam already.

Out of the jam. Sox with men on 2nd and 3rd, one out. Need runs here.

Beni K's looking at a meatball right over the plate. He's been Mr. K lately.

Yanks came back right at the end to win. Donaldson gets traded to the Indians. The post-season could be a doosie.

Nice play by Mookie to cut down Davidson and end the inning.

5 Reasons we lost tonight (although technically it's not over):

1. Eovaldi stinks to high heaven.
2. Mookie's base running blunder in the 1st ruined a potential scoring rally.
3. Then the offense went on snooze.
4. Looking at too many called strikes
5. Eovaldi stinks to high heaven.

Pomeranz has gone 3+ innings without giving up a run.  It's not April fool's is it?

I was just thinking he's done ok despite getting into a jam or two.

More base running screw-ups. Was that supposed to be a hit and run?

Thornburg puts the icing on the cake. This game is officially toast.

So finally Beni gets a big hit. Keeps the Sox from getting shutout, at least.

Sox batters need to stop whining about the ump's calls and start hitting something. Doesn't do any good to get tossed at this stage.

Why do people in the stands get so excited over a baseball? The WS feed is showing some girl who had a foul ball bounce her way celebrating like she just won a million dollars. It's a baseball, for Pete's sake. If it was laying outside the park in the gutter no one would touch it.

So 5 hours after it started, the game mercifully ends. Sox offense looked like crap. Hard to win games when you score just a single run.

The Sox had better work their way back to a .500 average if they want to take the ALE. They're 7-8 for their last 15.

Add Thornburg to the list of pen concerns that we have going into the postseason.

The bats have been playing Farrell's bunch from 2016-17 lately.  They can't put up runs in the early innings.

Last night was a real bummer and I'm up to here with Porcello and Eovaldi's misfiring on the mound.  Now is the time we need them to step up and they aren't doing it.  Pedro Martinez was supposed to help Eo out but apparently either Nathan wasn't listening or Pedro's help wasn't worth a pitcher of spit.  And five hits?????  This is September 1st and I remember very vividly what happened seven years ago when the pitching went South, the hitting went into the deep freeze, the leadership became non-existent and the manager stumbled and fumbled away the whole season in one rotten month.  This must not happen this year.  The pitching must rebound (LaVignie, you're the pitching coach, start earning your damned money---your pitchers are getting hammered.  And we need consistent hitting, not one hot night and another a freezing cold one, and will someone or two step up and start showing this team some leadership because we seem to be devoid of it.
