Title: GAME #26, SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2018, TAMPA BAY RAYS AT BOSTON RED SOX
Post by: Bear on April 28, 2018, 05:42:14 AM
RAYS V RED SOX

SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 2018, 4:05 PM AT FENWAY PARK

TV:  NESN, FOX SPORTS SUN

TAMPA, (11-13)............................................................................................BOSTON, (19-6)

TAMPA:

YONNY CHIRINOS, RHP, 0-1, 2.92 ERA, 21K

The right-hander has pitched well in three of his four starts even though he
doesn't have a win .  He has not gone longer than 5 2/3 innings yet but has
struck out 21 in 24 2/3 innings this season.

BOSTON:

DAVID PRICE, LHP, 2-2, 2.93 ERA, 23K

The lefty was haunted by one misfire in his last start, and Oakland's Khris
Davis swatted it over the wall for a three-run homer that handed Boston a
4-1 loss.  Price has tossed 14 scoreless innings in two starts vs the Rays
this year.

I’m calling it now: Price is back to the #4 starter he was 2 years ago. Thought he’d turn it around but he’s pitched lousy 3 starts in a row. We’re gonna haveto rude Sale and a hopefully revamped Porcello. Not enough. Gotta hope E-Rod May turn into a viable #3. Pomeranz is not cutting it so far

No such luck!!!!!!

My wife and I went to a wedding and had a great time so I didn't see the disgraceful shit hole of baseball the team played today.  We most likely were fooled on a number of fronts by the team's amazing start.  They now look like  the stumblebums we saw last season much of the time, and I noticed on MLB  that now Bradley is looking pretty pathetic on defense too?  If that's so what is he good for anymore?  And Vazquez hitting under 200.  No matter how you slice it we cannot carry two stiffs hitting just above or below the Mendoza line in the lineup much longer, if any longer. And when the hell is Pedroia going to ready to play.  I haven't heard a thing in that regard for over a week.  Is he near ready?  Because we need a spark and another hitter in that lineup.

As reported by Alex Speier in April, Dustin Pedroia is scheduled
to return to the lineup in early May.

I doubt anyone thought the Sox could remotely come close to playing close to their 16-2 start. For me, at least this slump is no shock. The Rays came riding a 7 game streak and are playing very well. Ups and downs will happen all year.I see a 2 team race with the Yanks right thru September. As Ipot mentioned earlier Price is closer to a # 4. I held out hope for JBJ turning the corner but that now I believe will not happen. Sad that there is no help at AAA. Why Travis is not learning to play another position makes no sense.

Saturday's game was just further evidence of truths we have known for some time.  First,David Price is not the dominant pitcher he once was.  IMO he is morphing into another Josh Becket.  Over reliance on the damn cutter (a pitch I detest) I believe is accelerating loss of speed for his fast ball. Second, Bradley although a good outfielder isn't as good as many in Boston think him to be and certainly not good enough to compensate for his inconsistency if not absolute failure as a hitter.  Finally Nunez legs are inhibiting his defemse.  I predict he won't finish the year without a major injury or extended time on the DL.

You've won me over with Bradley's defense.  He makes some real weird moves out there and sometimes gets caught flatfooted on balls hit to him.  No matter Elk, whatever defense he brings to the table doesn't come close to compensating for his total failure as a hitter, yet Cora today kept his party line stupidity that the guy is taking good swings and getting close.  Close to what?  Has Cora gone completely off the deep end regarding this guy.  I can't wit to see him gone from Boston, but I have always said someone high up likes this guy and we may have to endure his endless miserable hitting even longer......or should I say non-hitting?
