BOSTON RED SOX V OAKLAND A'S

TUESDAY, APRIL 2, 2019, 10:08 PM EDT,

OAKLAND COLISEUM, OAKLAND, CA

NESN, NBCSCA

BOSTON, (1-4)...OAKLAND, (4-3)

BOSTON:

CHRIS SALE, LHP, 0-1, 21:00 ERA, 4K

The ace looks to recover from a rough Opening Day, when he was shelled for seven runs --
including three homers--in just three innings against the Mariners in five career starts at
Oakland. Sale has a 2.33 ERA

OAKLAND:

MIKE FIERS, RHP, 1-1, 5.00 ERA, 5K

In his most recent outing last Thursday, Fiers pitched like the ace that the A's hoped he
would be, yielding one hit in six shutout inning against the Angels.  He's 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA
in four career appearances against Boston.

WHAT is it with our pitchers and home runs????
Sale gave up a solo shot to the second batter he faced.

A's 1 - Sox 0
Bottom of the first inning . . .

SIGH

BoSoxFanNY

C'mon SOX - NEED TO SCORE RUNS!!

To the top of the 5th inning
A's 1 - Sox 0

markj

Xander swinging at crap again. 15 innings without a single run. I'm going to bed.

BoSoxFanNY

Xander strands Benni at 3rd base.

STILL
A's 1 - Sox 0
Going to the bottom of the 6th inning.

15 innings with NO runs against the A's
SAD, really sad.

Sale has pitched well for 5 innings, he NEEDS run support.

Let's GO Sox.

BoSoxFanNY

Chris Sale thru 6 innings - 87 pitches, 1 run allowed in the first inning.

Top of the 7th inning
NEW pitcher for the A's

WE NEED TO SCORE RUNS!!!

BoSoxFanNY

6 hits = NO RUNS.

DANG IT!

Going towards another shut-out.

DANG IT,

BoSoxFanNY

SHUT OUT AGAIN.
18 inning without a run.
DAMN!
Sox LOSE 1 - 0.

Sale pitched a gem, 1 run.
Bullpen pitched well.

WHAT happened to our bats??????

SALE deserved better.
SOX fans deserve better.

UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

BoSoxFanNY

SOX had 7 hits = 0 runs
A's had 3 hits = 1 run
and that 1 run was a home run.

SO VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS TEAM.

What I saw in Spring Training is happening in the early part of this season.
AND the teams that played well in Spring Training have continued on in the regular season.

BoSoxFanNY

Sale did his job.
Sox cannot win if they don't score runs.

THIS LOSS is on the batters.

I have no idea, but it looks like a bunch of guys thinking more about their contracts than winning baseball. But like you guys say, maybe just a long WS hangover.  Alex said he can  sleep now because "we're competing."   sigh

longgame

They hadn't loss 4 in a row all last year.  I'm not sure they were shutout two in a row either.  Bogey gets thrown out at home and at third so far.  Nobody else is hitting.

Saw Sale on NESN this morning and he was saying he couldn't throw a fastball without them hitting it.  Not sure what it is up with these guys, but I will point out that both Seattle and the A's appear to be unbeatable and I'll attribute that to being at least a week ahead of anyone else.  Something for MLB to think about before they schedule another pre-season series like that.

I guess we're going to have to wait for the Rays and O's to slug it out!   iono

Seriously!!!!
I do hope you meant that to be comical.

Another thing to remember is that Pedey and Pearce have not yet made their appearances either.  We know they're weak at 2B with Nunez and Holt and Holt, by the way, looks horrible.  So plug up that hole and add to right handed bats to the lineup and that will help.  There was one inning, I think right after Fiers came out, that they sent in a lefty and we faced him with three lefties who were quickly retired.  Would have been nice to have a righty to put up in that situation, but it's one thing to send up Pearce and quite another to insert Travis into that situation.
