I though Montgomery was pitching the day game and Gil the nightcap.  Maybe they changed it since you posted last night.  Sox need to come out hitting!

News overnight.  Franchy optioned to Worcester and Shaw added to the big league roster. That leaves two open spots, 27 for a double header day. Houck we fill one of those spots, and they expect a note addition before gametime.  Maybe Taylor coming off covid watch.

Houck loads the bases, gives up a single to let in 2.  Sox down 2-0, game over.  Glad to be wrong, Sox bounced back for 2 uncharacteristically but still look a bit listless.

Whitlock walks 2, then Taylor comes in and walks Rizzo.  Bases loaded for the Yankees with none out.  The bullpen strikes again.

DANG IT.
Sox lose to the Yankees 5 - 3.
Bases loaded, no outs in the top of the 7th inning
AND then nothing. 3 straight outs.

Shaking, sad - DAMN!

The Red Sox BEFORE the All Star Break would have scored . . .

Before the break the bullpen wouldn't have blown it in the first place!

Just another disappointing Red Sox performance this month.  Seems the starting pitching is back, although it's rare to see one of them go 5 innings.  I thought the bats were coming back but JD is in lazy mode for some reason, Bogey is still not swinging the bat hard, even though he had 2 RBIs on a soft single.  But everyone seems to wilt with men on base.

Should Cora of left Houck in for another inning? Probably. But the guys who came in are usually pretty reliable. You just can't walk that many and have it turn out good. The offense wasn't very good today. 3 runs is usually a loss. It hurt when Kiki swung at ball 4 then k'd. Would of made it 5-4 and anything goes then.

That was stupid pitching once again.  The simply became afraid to challenge any hitter.

I would have left him in, forget the stats.  Let him give up a hit at least and then pull him.  But as you said, Whitlock has been solid, so has Taylor and neither of them could throw strikes.

No use crying over spilt Overtine.  We got beat by the better team in Game One and didn't do much to help ourselves with poor clutch hitting and a subpar bullpen performance.  All we can now do is bow our necks and come back and win the second game.  It can be done if we play like the Real Red Sox of a month ago and not the stumble bums of the past two weeks.  We need no meltdown from Nathan tonight, some good hitting support from the offense and we then could be in pretty good shape.  Just let 'er rip!!!

Well the Red Sox answered me with a gigantic middle finger in the second game and I'm giving one right back to them.  HEY RED SOX---F24K YOU!!!!!!!
