I figured he'd do something like this.  Really don't like the defensive letdown of Kike at 2B versus Iglesias.  More problems of the poorly constructed team trying to fit 10 pounds of you know what in a 5 pound bag.

Looking at that group of outfielders gives me the willies.  I don't think I've seen that combo all season.  He's probably guessing those three can plate 5 or more runs, and we'll just live with the fielding problems as they come.  The Sox can hit the long ball, but they can't get guys consistently on base, resulting in solo shots, while the other team has been getting 3-run slams and grannies.

Nats announcers were saying that Cora was telling the team to be more selective. I’m glad he noticed this in game 159.

Sox look sluggish, once again not hitting a minor leaguer.

The other ALEast contenders are filling up the scoreboard tonight.  As for the Sox, I’m not sure if they have anything left.  It’s getting down to the brass tacks.

Another fourth inning scare, these guys can’t get too far but somehow they wiggled out of it.

If this doesn’t shake them out of this pop fly funk nothing will.  How they respond right now is important.

ERod never learned the part about running when the ball is in play.  What a moron.

I was just texting my sister about the anemic offense when the Sox hit back-to-back dingers to make it 4-0. Maybe I'll try it again to see if it is some sort of mojo.

Got a lead, then must walk the first batter.  Have to pull ERod after he sucked up his batting spot and then went out and put the next two men on.  Can’t make this stuff up.  They seem determined to make this this tough.

I wonder if theres a place you can place a bet on whether the Sox reliever coming in walks the the first batter he sees.

Dodged another bullet.  Would like to see more runs so I can relax.  I think it needs to be more than 10 to be able to relax though.

Meatball Matt does his thing and serves up a nice juicy meatball that went out over the left field wall.

This ump has a rather narrow strike zone. Seems to be applying it equally, though.

So Cora brings in Hernandez who does exactly what he always does and walks the first guy he faces.

Sox pitchers keep getting 2 strikes and then can't close it out.

Again with 2 outs and 2 strikes and ends up walking the batter. Vaz did drop a foul tip, but that happens.

Sox get win #90 … gurus say 92 wins for a wild card.  Yanks (91) lose to Rays. Jays win, 89.  Angels up a run in Seattle (89) in the 5th.  Going to the wire on Sunday.

If the Sox win today and tomorrow they're in.  It's as simple as that.  With two wins and a Yankee loss they can be the home team.  If not, then it's a mess.

Yesterday's game was a typical Sox game - they go up against a team of rookie pitchers and no name players and can scratch out a few runs while never really being in command on the pitching side.  Clearly Barnes is not ready for prime time.  Darwinzon doesn't belong in the majors, he's just plain bad.

I don't know what the heck is going on with the Sox but for the past few days I've been watching them on MASN and their announcers are surprised themselves when they pull up numbers on guys like Bogaerts who hasn't had an extra base hit in a while, or when Raffy pops up and slams his bat after every at bat with men on base, etc.  They have a lineup that has great stats - everyone on this team has a good slash line - but none of them seem to be able to produce.  Errors, fielding or running, by the other team, usually contribute to the wins.

The bullpen is scary.  Who is reliable?  I'll always remember 2004 because for the first time ever watching the Sox they would win pretty much every time they had a lead.  Now it's 50/50.  Ottavino is clearly worn out.  Robles is a head case and can go cold in a heartbeat.  Houck is afraid to throw strikes.  Brasier had a decent outing but I never feel comfortable with him on the mound.  Taylor and Whitlock are probably the two best relievers and both are out.

So here we are - a team that had a commanding lead in first place is struggling to hang on and seems to blow every chance they have to move ahead.  They have half the team who got a two week rest in August but still somehow can't seem to show any energy when it's game time.  They have 5 outfielders, one actual 1B who they have to move around to make room for one of the outfielders.  The best 2B they have can't play past a tiebreaker game.  They don't have starters that can go more than 5 innings, and in fact usually fall apart in the fourth.

Go Sox!  ;D :o
