Lot of white flags markj.  However, he has thrown well in relief of late and perhaps with a miracle of sorts he can bring that mind set to his start tonight and really surprise us.  Maybe not either.  Still we need to hit better and Cora must put his nine best hitters on that field---and no playing favorites, a habit Alex has come to be notorious for.

Among pitchers traded at this year's #MLB trade deadline, no two relievers with 200+ pitches thrown since July 31 have allowed a higher opponent AVG than #RedSox Hansel Robles (.302) and Austin Davis (.280).

Robles' .400 opponent wOBA in that time is also tops among that list.

Heck of a job Bloomie!

I imagine it will be a late lineup post again as they wait for word on who is available.  I'm trying to sort through this mess.

I believe Arroyo and Hernandez need to remain quarantined in Cleveland for anywhere from 10-14 days.  Does anyone have any clarification on that?  I'm pretty sure the rule is 10 days but I think Judge was out 14.

Perez, Barnes and Taylor are all close contacts I think but have not shown symptoms.  I think Barnes had a positive test.  Can they come back as soon as they get a negative test?

I wonder what other effects may be announced today.

With the influx of bullpen names like DeLeon, Rios, Davis and Robles in the last month, there is some dumpster diving going on. A couple of those fellas weren’t worth the paperwork and got optioned.  Add to that Barnes, Perez and Taylor on the covid watch, it is almost a bizarre scene. Either bad luck or a lot of bad choices by mgt. and players, or some of both.

Plus we're dumpster diving around the league and coming up with guys like Brad Peacock - who is now tonight's starter.  A horrible pitcher going on short rest.

Still no lineup at 5.

Sawamura out now too.

And Brad Hand was DFA'd from the Blue Jays so I'd expect him to be in a Sox uni by the end of the game tonight.  In fact I heard there were a couple of girls from St. Mary's for the Blind that made the roster.

QuoteThe Sox acquired Brad Peacock on Monday, then named him the starter Tuesday afternoon. After spending eight years with the Astros, Peacock became a free agent in October, then signed with Cleveland on June 25. Assigned to Triple A Columbus, he posted a 7.68 ERA in 11 games, 10 of which were starts.

Oh boy.  sigh

I've read enough-----and it doesn't give me cause to think positive about our chances tonight.

I see that Stephen Gonsalves (a 2020 bullpen arm) got the call up for Sawamura.

Something up with Bogey.  He got a hit in the first.  Then gets pulled for Arauz moving to SS and Munoz at 2B.  The broadcast crew is concerned about a covid test.

Ouch! And if he is, you know who follows him off the field. Man oh man, this Covid thing has been nonstop surrealism for 18 months. In the end, of course, you hope everyone is alright and nobody gets nailed like erod did.

I was thinking the same thing Mongo, Raffy may be right behind him.

I’m also trying to figure out why I’m still watching this game as the Sox totally implode.

This team is totally demoralized.  This has been the sloppiness inning of baseball that I have seen a major league team play in years.

I'm surprised the Rays, who have a realistic shot at going deep into the post season, are willing to continue this series with the Sox. If they start losing players like the Sox have, their season could implode.

WTF with COVID 19 positive players?

WERE they vaccinated?

Talk about a team truly falling apart . . .

AND the Sox are losing 7 - 1

I know Barnes said he was vaxxed. But the vaccine only keeps you from getting really sick from it. You can still become infected and test positive even with the vaccine.

So, in the beginning of the season IF a team had numerous players testing
positive for COVID, MLB cancelled the games.

Wonder why MLB has not cancelled this series?

If a bunch of Rays suddenly test positive, we may see that change. But cancelling games at this late stage in the season is tough as there is no time to reschedule.

You made it further than I did. I couldn't watch it. not because of the sloppy play so much for the demoralized thing.

A's are beating the Tiggers. Sox are in danger of losing the WC slot. I wouldn't be surprised if they're out of the race by this weekend.

Sox were in 1st on July 30. Now they're 10 games out. Talk about a major collapse. It'll get worse, too.

There still are a few of the guys putting out 100% but this debacle has ben building up for a couple of months, and, yes, before the trade deadline.  We had guys playing that shouldn't have even been on the team, Cora playing his favorites, and our team playing piss poor defense, a pitching staff afraid to throw strikes and an inconsistent offense.  The current team is just a shell of the  great 2018 club and now it seems that year was now light years away.

Come to think of it has Bloom even gotten us a player this season who isn't worth more than a empty suit.  Now Peacock?  He's been a bum all his career, and Valez and Munoz, Cordero, Gonsales, Garrett, and the list goes on.  We haven't gotten one decent player in trades that shapes up as a future stalwart.  I'm afraid this team is in for a longer spell of futility unless Cora, Bloom and Henry get their collective heads out of their collective asses.  I'm beyond being furious.

The net effect of the loss is now a virtual tie with Oakland for the WC, we do have two games in hand.  But the esprit de corps on this team is gone. From the super spread on the team to the loss of our mainstay fielders, it’s done. My concern is Bloom’s decisions to cut ties with many stars in his rush to the reset.  There is talk he will not resign both Bogey and Devers (a $50 mil+ hit), only one stays??  So what new free agents would really want to cast their lot with Boston after this disappointing season and at what size contract?  Sorry for the rambling.

I'm not sure of the specifics, but I do know the team has not reached a certain threshold of vaccinated players.  Players would do wise to see what happened to former NFL MVP Cam Newton yesterday if they don't care about their health or their teammates.   This was a team that was sinking and looking for help and the front office threw them an anchor.  Now they're trying to patch the ship after it hit the iceberg.  I'll keep going back to the "moves" Bloom made - from the bad pitchers to a guy who is a good ballplayer but a month later can only play about half the time and screws up the rest of the lineup.  But I have to think that having Bogey in particular out, after already losing two key guys (I really feel bad for Arroyo), had to be a dagger to the heart.  Plus these guys know the slop they're bringing in to fill these now gaping holes.

Another thing, if they manage to not keep Bogey and Devers as a core of a team going forward, they're going to get crowds like they do in Tampa Bay as people will just be watching laundry at that point.

It might be an interesting winter after all Ted.  But is interesting the right word or nightmare a better term to use?  Bloom might just try to totally reset and if Henry really is that cocerned in getting our payroll in order he may just let him do it.  The question is how close are our young minor league prospects like Yorke, Casas and others  ready to move up within a year or two.
