Sunday night ESPN game. Never a good thing.

I hope the Red Sox team didn't see what you just posted; markj.   As fragile and leaderless as this team is they would use it as another excuse to lay down like dogs and moan about the gods of fate suddenly turning against them.  This team bears NO resemblance to the three WS Title teams we've had  the past decade and a half.  There idea of spirit and leadership is having the outfield butt cheer one another after a win.  Today we need Phillips in there for some mental toughness and team spirit and no Devers or Leon in that lineup no matter what the hell Porcello says about his "personal catcher"  He hasn't pithed that well of late with his special receiver and his guy can't hit worth shit.  We need the strongest lineup we can get tonight to  try and salvage a game in this series.

Solid AB by Holt. Bases loaded, one out. Swihart needs to avoid the GIDP and hopefully drive in a run here.

(More Capt. Obvious stuff.)

Swihart looked at the one pitch over the plate. Got robbed on a pitch outside, and swung at a pitch in the dirt. In other words, a useless AB. But at least he didn't end the inning with bases loaded. Vazquez will do that now.

Kimbrel with the win. Moreland bloops in a huge hit. And the Sox gained a game in the standings. 8.5 up now and another game off the schedule.  Guess our total collapse was short lived. On to Tuesday.

If the Sox can close out the season at 8-10 (.444), then the Yanks would have to go 17-2 (.895) to keep up. I don't see that happening. Still, the Sox are liable to face the 'Stros again in the post-season and that isn't a good thing.

The next 6 games are against the Jays & Mets. Should win 4/6 if the Sox can hit. Then 3 with the Yanks right after. These next 9 could decide everything or at least make it impossible for the Yanks to have any realistic chance in the division. Would like to see Sale pitch in the 3rd game of the Jays series and then in the Yankee series if not sooner.

Mark, tonight Brandon did not have a great game, going hitless and making an error.  That is a fact.  But I liked his presence in the lineup and feel he will contribute in subsequent games if given the chance.  I like his presence in the lineup.  He seems to play with an attitude and fire and we can use that as I have said so often.  I hope he gets some extended play there and not Devers who has not been worth much this season after a promising start late last year.  He needs to go to the instructional league and work very hard on his defense and pitch selection in my opinion.

We're still not out of the woods George, and the fact is we did not look very good in our first two games of this series.  In fact, we kind of dip shitted around in the middle innings tonight before we brought it home.  Let's see what we do against the Blue Jays and Metes the next two home series.  We win those two sets and we should be in good shape.  Right now our bullpen and our penchant for suddenly leaving a lot of guys on the bases is a potential red alarm.  So let's see how this week shakes out. Still good to be 8.5 up again, but keep in mind who the Yankees play a three game series with starting tomorrow and how futile that team always is against the New Yorkers.  We need to start winning a few more series before we can wrap it up.

Hembree always gets himself into trouble when he lets up and starts noodling around after getting ahead of the batters.  He needs to knock some of them down to get them off balance and then put them away.  As for Johnson and Kelly, back up the truck.

I think the MVP of this team is Bogaerts.  After him, nobody hits, although Moreland finally came through last night.  Bogey gets the big hits, drives in the runs and is the best defensive infielder on the team which isn't saying a lot.

Last night they tried to shake up some of the non-productive positions and it didn't help.  Leon made the last out of I think every inning he batted in.  Then Mookie would lead off the next inning with a hit.

JDM has been great, but he's a defensive liability.  He finally delivered a big blow when needed.  Can't complain too much, but I'd rather see Bogey up in a pressure situation than JD right now.

Sox need to find a way to get outs from the bullpen.

You know, I never thought I would ever say this but I think you MAY be right on Bogaerts.  It may be a mirage but it is very possible that he has finally come of age with our team after hot and cold sessions the past couple of previous years.  If this is the start of a real hot streak it couldn't come at a better time and if he realizes that a lot of hope is resting on his shoulders he could either rise to the occasion or fire and fall back.  We need the former, and will we finally get a couple relievers who can go out there and consistently get batters out...…..not named Johnson or Kelly.

We need Sale healthy and ready to go; we need Price pitching as he has for the past few months.  That would give us a one-two pitching punch to compare favorably with the Astros.  After that Alex needs to find his balance with the relief corps and eliminate those who we all know cannot be  trusted and it might force him to move a starter or two to the pen.  That's the only way we can measure up to Houston....AFTER we win the AL East which is right now my first and most overriding concern.  NO WILD CAR under any circumstances because for us it is a death sentence.

Cora also must decide that he has to go with the best nine hitters in the lineup and than means Leon, hitting about 185, is OUT of the lineup.  I still do not understand why he will not give Blake Swihart a long look behind the plate.  When he plays he makes consistent contact and has been robbed a few times to keep his average not where he would like it.  Yet compared to the hitless and dull Leon and leaderless Vazquez, he looks like an All Star.  If we are going to eventually hope to go far in the post season the best players have to play, the best pitchers must be put in their proper spots and the chaff must be ready when the truck is backed up to get them the hell out of Dodge.

I'm just concerned that even with those two on their games and Porcello too for that matter, what happens after they come out?

You're right about them needing some pop out of the bottom of the lineup and anything at all out of the catcher position.  It's a real shame they could be that bad at that plate.  Seems like on a given night Nunez or Bradley may be hitting but none of the rest.
