Title: Dodgers sign Glasnow
Post by: longgame on December 15, 2023, 07:19:20 AM
Sure is a good thing the Sox don’t need pitching, huh?  I read that the Sox are waiting on Yamamoto before they make any moves.  Meanwhile guys get picked up.

I'm afraid Breslow has his phone on speed dial to Henry.  Every brilliant move he ponders is awaiting approval from Henry, who is anchored somewhere around Tahiti with a mint julep in his hand.  Meanwhile Friedman and Cashman are enriching their lineups with the cream of the crop of free agents and trade pieces.    I'm just flummoxed.

I do not think Henry is the only problem hindering Red Sox from signing anyone significant.  I think the problem is much deeper. It is the entire FO bureaucracy which is paralyzed by group think.  So far Breslow is Bloom with a degree in Microbiology.

Maybe they'll somehow surprise us, but after the past several years, I think everyone expected them to be at least as active as the front running teams.  The Dodgers are going and getting what they need.  The Yankees got the power bat that changes their lineup.  Atlanta has filled holes.  The Sox added more "depth" lol.

Maybe a hit to the Sox signing Montgomery, Scherzer was noted to be out of action until mid-year.  That may put a big need for Rangers to re-sign Montgomery.  There are lots of indications Sox will trade for a rotation starter.  Their talks with Seattle did not get much interest for a trade.  The trade for Glasnow is now just a memory.

Hard to believe that our front office and Bloom light Breslow can't seem to make any headway in signing some pitchers that we need badly and there are a lot of people who we could put the blame on starting with the owner who seems determined to hold onto his wallet again this year.  The pitchers are falling like ripe oranges and our FO is paralyzed by group think, a cheap bastard of an owner and a head of Baseball ops who now seems to be more of a glorified flunkee than the person who is going to get our  team back in gear.  Trading for a pitcher or two could rip into our plethora of prospects while spending money can get us what we need and keep our prospects in our fold. So easy but when those in charge are a pack of buffoons it is easy to see why in the middle of December we have done pr etty much nothing-----and the arrow is once again pointing straight down.  Hope not many of you are planning to attend a lot of games this coming season.  What a waste of money that would be watching another shit show of ineptitude.

FOR GOD'S SAKE HENRY GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS AND PUT UP THE MONEY FOR US TO GET SOME TALENT FOR THE NEXT SEASON.  YOU SIMPLY CANNOT BE THAT STUPID OF AN butt!!!!!!!!

Wacha and Renfroe both headed to KC.

One MLB site has news Sox are in talks with Brewers for pitcher Corben Burnes.  As are the Orioles.  Some of the trade options being bandied around are Mayer and/or Roman Anthony, other prospects.  For me that's a tough trade for Boston, as Burnes has only one year of control. But he gives you the ace you're looking for.

You sign players off the free agent market because it costs only money which Henry has plenty of.  You don't send away two or three of your best prospects for one year of control when it is very obvious that we have trouble signing our players to long term contracts over the years.  It is more than a tough trade for Boston; it is an idiotic one.

Fred, I think the Sox get their first pitcher in a trade, good or awful.  They really can't sit on their hands. The Yamamoto dance is now projected to go into January, along with all the front line FA pitchers.  The Sox are in a pickle.  Ken Rosenthal  called the Red Sox the Dorks of the Week.  The crap from Werner, 'full throttle', was typical of the lies from FSG last year.

I'm really concerned that the whole Red Sox plan is going to blow up next couple weeks.  First of all, they have allowed Justin Turner to go full free agent, the spark plug of last year's team.  Then they traded their starting RF Verdugo.  That puts them two down from last years mediocre team.  All that Breslow has gotten done is a collection of prospect pitchers and an oft-injured LF O'Neil, who hasn't had a good season in three years.  Lots of folks said, nobody wanted the OPS job  in Boston except for a green horn in Breslow and some weirdo at the Twins.  I hope that FSG has not dealt themselves a fatal blow in rebuilding this team.

The Sox are on the clock for another pitcher.  Montgomery or Snell.  Henry will not like the Snell package.  Besides the Boras ridiculous contract, they have the Padres QO to deal with,
Loss of second-highest draft pick in 2024 and $500k in international bonus pool money (for the 2025 period).

My guess is we get neither one of them.  Prune Face would rather trade our better prospects for a couple of pitchers so he can keep is damn money even if it means we lose a few of our better young up and coming players.  Wish I was wrong on that Sea Dog but that is Henry's MO for the past few years.  I really think the guy has either lost his interest or his b rain.

The Sox have nothing to dissuade me from what Fred said. I hope it’s not the case, but there’s no reason to think they’re going to open the wallet for either of these guys since they’re going to have to blow away other offers at this point, not lowball him and expect to get callbacks.

After YY Ive come back down to earth, like you guys have.  I saw a good scenario of what is about to happen, the way Boston (post Dombrowdki) always does these things.

Snell and Montgomery/Boras will get offers from teams where they really want to play, then take the offers to Sox and ask for another $50 mill.  Sox will walk away from those guys.

They then go to the trade market for Cease and Burnes.   Teams will want Mayer or Casas or Bello in the trade. Then are reminded that these guys are becoming free-agents in a year, and Boras loves to shop clients in free-agency.

Like a well oiled machine Boston will then contact pitchers Imanaga/Stroman/Giolito or some other arm who they think can be done over as a reclamation project.  It's all in the cards, my friends.

I think that it is what is going to come down Sea Dog.  Then it will be up to Red Sox fans to boycott games, refuse to watch then on TV and buy not one of their products.  Henry has to get the message and with some smarts should now understand that he has in a short five year span undone all the good he achieved when he bought the team and made it winners.  He now has become a running joke and disagrace as an owner.

Fred, I was rushing to judgment.  Apparently Brez can walk and chew gum at the same time, he is entertaining Teoscar at the same time as putting in a call for James Paxton.  Could Paxton be his new pitching mainstay?  Just wow!!

From Tyler McMillan today,
“In the aftermath of the Yamamoto news, one industry official was speculating on how the Red Sox might pivot to find the necessary starting pitching. When I suggested free agent Jordan Montgomery as a good fall-back option, the official scoffed and offered that even Montgomery would be too expensive for the Red Sox’s current budget plans.”   (Lawd have mercy)
