A short trip tonight to Toronto.  Jays had not played there in almost two years until they had a series there last week. Those games will help define what fight Boston has left in the tank, and the Yanks are coming soon.

The Sox picked up an OF today

“Red Sox, per the club’s transaction wire, officially acquired Delino DeShields Jr. in a trade with the Rangers on Wednesday. Since DeShields was not on Texas’ 40-man roster, the trade was allowed to go through after the July 30 deadline.

“Upon the deal, DeShields was assigned to the Triple-A Worcester Red Sox, who could use some outfield depth in wake of Jarren Duran going to Boston.”

With the lack oh pitching help at the deadline,  Worcester could be the resource for OF and added pitching in Boston, call ups and send downs.  Beyond Sale coming back, there’s Houck, Seabold down there and Whitlock /Valdez could go in an opener/follower - short innings. A Tampa dream come true.  sigh

BTW Seabold pitched his best game yesterday since coming back from the elbow issue.  6 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 BB, 10 Ks against the Yanks AAA ScrantonWB.

Great to have a team that somehow has a huge payroll but can't find top line players.

Ted, I listened to WEEI pre-game today.  Mixed messages.  Kennedy said he was trying to track down who told a reporter that Sox were going all in at getting Scherzer last week.  I guess that's more important than cutting your losses with the fanbase for basically taking a pass at worthwhile trades.  Cora was hesitant to say when Schwarber would be physically ready to contribute.  Arroyo is still in rebab.

WEEI guys think among the pitchers Richards and Perez, they thought Richards has the best chance of recovering his mojo.  They thought Perez is in a worse mental state , with Tigers batters hitting .360 against him, and his ERA going way up recently.  I must be watching different games than those guys!!

The WEEI guys must have been on to something.  Perez can't get through the 2nd, giving up  3 runs on 5 hits and a homer.  I don't know what else to say.   iono

That's Cora for you, the dumb stubborn shit!!!!!.  Besides how can he put his pet Miserable Marwin back in the lineup and keep Duran in the lineup too.  This way he gets two of his personal favorites into the lineup.  Who gives a shit if Marwin is hitting 201 and should be released and as for that pathetic Martin Perez enough is enough.  Get that bastard out of the rotation, out off Boston with his working papers and out of sight.  One and a third innings and three runs and five hits.  When is Bloom going to show some balls and tell Cora he is releasing him unless he is put in the bullpen as a mop up man.  And why is Seabold and Houck still toiling in the minors when we have  two dog shits like Perez and Richards still in the rotation getting torched game after game.  These guys are taking the team down and the fans with them.  It has become a complete cluseter**** with the Red Sox.  My God, can't anyone else see what is going on with this team and the fact that Cora plays his favorites to the detriment of the team,  the filthy cheater.

Flood gates are opening now.  One of Bloom's big pick ups at the trade deadline, Robles, letting them in.

But maybe some day Kyle Schwarber will save us all.

Can't blame Cora.  He needs guys he can move around because he got no help from the front office.  Gonzalez should have gone in a package for a 1B with a big fat check attached to his bib.  Houck has to move down so they can field enough pitchers to get through the schedule, because we got no starting pitching help at the deadline either but will place our hopes on Sale to keep us ahead of the Orioles.

And for good measure, his other relief acquisition is keeping the inning going.  Two bad relievers and an injured guy are really lifting the team Chaim.  Is Tampa Bay still paying him?

Robles and Davis - 2IP - 5 hits, a walk and 4 Runs

And our guys are getting blanked at the plate.

But Bloom says we'll be good in a few years.

Kennedy has to be thinking whether Bloom is the right guy to make another trade or sign FA’s. Since July this guy has been out to lunch. Bad move after bad move if you’re stacking him up against the Rangers or Pirates, but he’s managing in the fricking ALEast.

Perez is mentally not in a place to pitch in the major leagues.

Well he left Tampa Bay and they were very active at the trade deadline.  I think they made a huge miscalculation all around and if it were Tampa Bay nobody would care.  But this may be one of the biggest blunders in terms of non-moves of all time if they continue the downward spiral and Sale and Schwarber turn up to be too little, too late.  Just can't believe that they pretty much pulled the rug out from under the team as they had been battling all season.

Perez is mentally not in a place to pitch in the major leagues.

Cora seemed pissed when he went out to pull Perez.  Then again he could have been irked by the strike zone and the ump.

Anyway,  reports after the game talked about a “confrontation” with Perez in the locker room.  The Boston press will be on that.

Ted, if you'll jog your memory back 15 years the Red Sox did the same dance in 2006 when they were neck and neck with the Yankees and decided to do nothing to improve the ball club.  The team then went into a steep decline topped off by a five game sweep at the hand of the Yankees---AT FENWAY PARK.  In the meantime the Yankees traded for Bobby Abreu and some other decent players and ran away with the AL East.  Henry was reduced to making inane remarks about trying to keep to a budget but the press hammered him viciously.  That fall the team signed JD Drew, then a top notch player and Julio Lugo, up to that time a decent SS and not a bad hitter at all.   Then  they went all out and signed Japanese sensation Dice K Matsuzaka and in 2007 won the World Series.  The problem is that is the only comparison that team has with our current one because as sure as God made little green apples Prune Face will not buckle this fall.  First of all he owns the Boston Globe and the writers who cover the team from that paper know that if they rip the prune they could be out in the street, but the o ther papers in New England had better be ready to sharpen their swords because only a verbal and vicious attack on Henry repeatedly will move him to open his filthy rotten wallet and start spending money to build our team back up.  In the meantime there must be a housecleaning of bums like Marwin, Martin, Garrett, and some of the other crumbs who have disgraced themselves and their team this season.

Yep, in 2007 John Henry still spent money on the team.  Now he's "frugal".  I said on Twitter the other day, I can't wait to see who Bloom doesn't sign in the offseason.
