Quote from: longgame on Today at 08:10:28 AMSale has been looking good and will be pumped up.  Last night was a tough loss. Lots of opportunity, but as soon as they gave up a walk to the leadoff hitter I knew it was over.  Sort of like when the Canes didn't score on a power play in the second OT and the Rangers getting one a few minutes later.  Can't make mistakes like that late in a game.

No mention that once again we failed miserably to drive key runners home and also kept our bad habit of striking out and hitting into double plays....way too many.  It looks right now that unless things change quickly we are once again going to have trouble winning close games and coming from behind to do it when we need to.

These new stopgap guys in the infield are at least fielding their positions, but they can't hit.  Plus the Braves announcers were saying Grissom is way off his playing weight due to his illness.  Sucks for us though.

The baseball people say that Sale pitches the Wednesday game.  Someone will need to gag and tie up Dave O'Brien for that one.

Quote from: SeaBeachFred on May 06, 2024, 02:34:57 PMFrom what I have been seeing, the team does fine when it hits well and gets a plethora of runs to win going away, but they seem to smell bad when in a close game behind by a run or two they are almost useless from coming from behind for a dramatic win.  I also don't like seeing mad scientist Cora platooning and changing his lineups over and over again.   Injuries aside ( and he can't do much about that), he needs to play his best nine men unless it can be proven by stats that this guy or that guy can't hit lefties or righties worth a damn.

Look I don't see us being a serious contender for a playoff spot since we have inherent weaknesses in our team's composition, but to hell with these last place finishes.  We need to get out of the basement and stay out of there while we await those very god prospects I've been hearing and reading about.......and while I'm at it we need to have a new manager who can help develop  these prospects into our next outstanding team.  Cora is good with a veteran club as he proved in the past, but for us to rise above mediocrity we need someone to can get out young prospects the kind of leadership that will push us past Baltimore and New York..

Thanks for listening to me.

Well said.  But I give Cora far less credit than you.  Yes his veteran club won it all but that was a can't miss team.  Cora ruined the 2019 club in ST.  He remains the most over rated manager in Major League baseball IMO.

Fred, that's pretty much what the guys on the podcasts are saying.  In fact they insist Cora wants out of Boston and this MGT.  The need is for a new manager, as you say, that can develop young players.  Winning comes later. after the teaching.
