Critical series, but a good chance that this game gets postponed. Weather does not look good. That may mean a double-header on Saturday.

That’s a good regular season pitching matchup, but not so fast. Sale pitched Wed and is not available this series.  Given the margins for the WC, you don’t pitch your most dependable guy against their ace, as our 3 and 4 right now are down right risky.  Playing the odds with a two game lead, we just need two, maybe just one win this series.  But let her rip, and we’ve hit Cole hard lately.

It just wouldn't be a 2021 Sox-Yankees series unless some bad weather was sprinkled in.  Let's see what kinds of twists and turns MLB has in place to help the Yankees win a shortened game again.

Given the way the schedule shapes up the pressure is really on the Yankees who face three with Toronto followed by three with Tampa Bay after facing Boston.

WELL ONE WAY TO NOT BECOME A VICTIM OF THE RAIN SHOTENED GAME IS TO GET AHEAD OF THE YANKEES AND HAVE A CUSHION IF THEY DO CALL THE GAME.  WE ALSO DO NOT NEED A CHOKE RALLY THIS WEEKEND EITHER.  WE GOT SWEPT BY THEM IN YS IN AUGUST  AND IT MUST NOT HAPPEN AGAIN.  THIS TIME IF ANY TEAM GETS THE EDGE AND DOMI NATES IT NEEDS TO BE US.  CORA MUST NOT OVERMANAGE AND HE MUST PLAY HIS BEST PLAYERS AND WE NEED NATHAN TO PITCH HIS BEST GAME OF THE YEAR TO ALLOW US TO GET OFF TO A FLYING START.  I WANT TO WIN THIS SERIES AND WE SHOULD HAVE A BETTER THAN EVEN CHANCE TO DO SO PLAYING IN OUR OUWN BALLPARK.

It looks like the weather will be okay.  Maybe some showers, especially later.

No Dalbec, but they all of a sudden have more guys than spots.  They have basically Verdugo/Martinez/Schwarber/Dalbec in vying for time in 3 positions.

Also interesting, and I agree, that they are going to continue to go with Iglesias at 2B.  Arroyo will likely need some time to get his timing back and they can't afford that during this series.

The Sox can do themselves a big favor by winning this first game and really putting pressure on the Yankees.

I agree with using Iggy. He's playing well and right now he's our best option at 2nd base offensively and on defense combined. The Sox can worry about 2nd base when and if they make the playoffs. Use Iggy up now as you can't use him later.

Eovaldi struggling early.   Not the way to start this series.

It’s not the yellow it’s the contender on the other side who are not exactly Orioles or Mets.

I was being facetious.  ;D

But what was that nonsense with the missed popup? And now bases juiced? This is looking like the Sox from before the yellow suit days.

Out of it. This is going to be a painful game to watch, I think.

There's NESN's jinx for this game. Show stats on how well the Sox are playing at Fenway. Guaranteed to make them lose now.

Just one of those painful games to watch.  Sawamura almost had me wishing they could have put Eovaldi back in.

How is it that Schwarber didn't get tagged with an error for blowing that popup?

Sox finally get some runs and Perez is doing his best to give them back.

Out of it with just the solo dinger. Some nice defense, too.

I agree O'Brien jinxed Eovaldi from the outset when he said that he has been a Yankee killer etc.

The bullpen has done a good job tonight. Just a shame Eovaldi cratered.

If the season ended last week, that would have been your wild card playoff game.  Not a confidence builder.

The Sox have shown they can build a streak on the backs of teams that are out of the running.  The playoffs essentially started Friday for these two teams.  It was only one game, but the players and managers showed how they respond to the pitcher on the schedule, and the managers at putting players on the field in the right positions.  Prepare the troops for another day.
