Sox ready to promote Mayer?

The 'big three' finally got their promotion to AAA this weekend.  Mayer, Anthony, and Teel.  B.avg at AA were .307, .266, .294, respectively.  They all survived the trade deadline, although many Sox fans like myself would have welcomed a trade of one of these guys for a better pitcher for the rotation who could maintain success in 2024 and 2025.

It's high time that happened. Mayer had a bit of a hip issue after a biceps strain(?) and Anthony wasn't exactly lighting it up for a few weeks. Anthony rebounded, Mayer got better and here we are. The timing is suspiciously perfect, too. Need something to take out minds off the beat-down Houston administered to us this weekend.

Here's something interesting from the MLB site.
QuoteMayer and Teel rank first and second in the Eastern League in batting average, while Teel stands third, Mayer eighth and Anthony ninth in on-base percentage. All three rank within the top five in the league in OPS and runs. Anthony stands second overall in OPS and fifth in homers, while Teel ranks second in runs and fourth in RBIs.
Two things. Sounds like a year of the pitcher thing in the Eastern League this year. Second thing was that they were 8th and 9th in OBP while 1st and 2nd in BA. Without looking at the stats, it makes me wonder how many organizations are reverting back to on-base percentage as a priority again. Or it could just be natural stats. :)

fwiw, Casas looked spot on against a lefty Starter last night in 2/3rds of the Big 3's debut. He hit a massive shot that took no time to clear the right field "bleechers" off a high-inside fastball. Had a double in right center later, struck out and flied out deep to LF track after that. I didn't see Anthony's AB's, but I did see Grissom and Teel have several AB's.

Grissom looks like he's trying to add power to his arsenal. He did have one dinger, but got under it twice before that for pop ups to short LF. I didn't see any defense at all again. I take that back. I saw McDonough make two incredible catches, both sliding into the LF foul territory wall like how Swihart got hurt. Fortunately, no injury.

Campbell got promoted to Worcester.
Mayer's been hurt most of the month. Not played for Worcester yet.
Meidroth got replaced after 2PA's yesterday. Hope he's alright.

This next 1-2 years is gonna be mighty interesting.

Mayer to the IL. This is now looking like a trend. Teel's been struggling big time, but it's early. He was the more steady of the big 3. The other one, Anthony, broke out of his mini-skid with a 4-for-5 night.

But hey, I think we need to rename this group to the big-4 and add Kristian Campbell to the list.

Campbell went 2-5 in his AAA debut last night. One note on how well his 56-game AA tenure went. His final 28-game stretch saw him hit 109 points less than his first 28-game stretch. 109 points is a very big drop off, yes? During that massive offensive collapse that defined his 2nd half, he hit .309BA with a .921OPS. I wish I could slump like that. That's just how crazy his start in AA was. For reference, Mayer was leading AA Eastern League with a .307BA. Campbell's brief AA stint was just in a whole different dimension than the rest of the Eastern League, at least for the first 6 weeks or so.

Sox people are comparing SS/OF Kristian Campbell, now at Worchester, to be the next Barry Bonds.  We'll see.  He's the supplemental pick for losing Bogaerts with the QO.

Campbell, who batted third in Worcester's lineup both games, is the Red Sox' fastest rising prospect. Boston drafted him in the fourth round in 2023 out of Georgia Tech and he didn't appear on Baseball America's Red Sox Top 30 list entering the 2024 season. BA now ranks him Boston's No. 5 prospect. It also lists him No. 98 on its Top 100 list.

The 22-year-old shortstop/center fielder is batting .341 with a .445 on-base percentage, .570 slugging percentage, 1.015 OPS, 16 homers, 31 doubles, three triples, 66 RBIs, 78 runs, 62 walks, 87 strikeouts and 21 steals combined between High-A Greenville (40 games), Portland (56 games) and Worcester (two games,( 4 of 10)

I remember you mentioning him when we went to the Knights game.   Looks like a real stud but as we know, that can change at the MLB level.  Still, you have to like the development of position players in the Sox system.

Two years ago it was something awful to behold. One by one, they started turning it around. They were trying to do too much as an organization was my guess back then, but I don't recall what it was. It's been nice and we even have a couple in the wings waiting for the next wave.

I just saw that Myer is being shut down for the rest of the season again. Very disappointing. Two years in a row ain't a good sign, but hopefully this is done. That's my dream and I'm sticking to it.

I was watching one of the Red Sox blogs today.  In the off season they're in dire need of pitching,  what's new Sherlock?

The host was posing oft injured Meyer along with maybe Yoshida or Abreu  to Seattle for one of their high payroll arms, Castillo or Bryce Miller.  Meyer could be spared for a trade for the latter two, if Sox pay for part of Yoshida's deall.

Abreu is dispensable as Roman Anthony could be ready to play RF for Boston early on, or by June.

They definitely have a lot of pieces they can work with.  A lot of fans over value prospects and then complain when they aren't All Stars so I'm good with unloading some of the many outfielders and middle infielders we seem to be stocked up with to get some actual pitching. This will be the test for Breslow - they did better than expected with the team they assembled, at least until last month.  Can he effectively revamp the entire pitching lineup from started to the bullpen?

Abreu is one of Cora's favorites so unless those above the dimwitted manager overrules him that will not happen.

Ted, we need pitching and plenty of it and that cost money for signing FA and for trades for some of our surplus young talent, and to me as long as Cora is in charge that will not be possible.  He has proven that he misuses young players and we have him for another three years.  I  only wish Breslow would show some hair and take charge and get the losers and duds off of our team.  Last night could have been the last straw; such lousy clutch hitting and a loss that really shook the hell out of me.  My fear is a four game sweep.  This team doesn't play for Cora and some of them couldn't play no matter who managed them, BUT WE MUST MAKE REAL CHANGES OR THIS NIGHTMARE WILL CONTINUE INTO THE NEXT TWO OR THREE SEASONS.  I just hope I am wrong because I want to see our club once again  cause fear throughout baseball instead of being a laughing stock.  How about it "All In" Werner, you ready to live down your ridiculous call last November and get your boss to finally open his damn wallet and get us the pitching talent we need to finally get off the floor?
