Good game. Pitching and hitting was good enough. Going for the sweep tomorrow. Brayan Bello vs Kevin Gausman.

And there goes Rafaela back to SS tonight.  How about keeping these young guys in one spot and letting them excel there?

General Red Sox Discussions / Sox versus Celtics
Last post by longgame - June 18, 2024, 02:24:17 PM
First of all congrats to the Celtics for an impressive playoff performance and a dominant finals victory.  Another Boston championship.  I don't follow the Celtics closely but enough to know that for the past few years they've had several combinations of good players and coaches and came close.  But the ownership was relentless in finding the right group from the coach through the player roster.  The NBA is far less about developing players than MLB is, even with their G-League so they're somewhat forced into it and the smaller roster dynamics are different, but the Celtics weren't afraid to continue to work at it.

By contrast, the Sox have gone in the other direction.  Sports is funny, you can make a lot of money if you win or lose, and it costs more to win that it does to lose.  There's probably an optimum line there for a guy like Henry, but the point of a sports franchise is to win.  Right now that is not a priority with the Red Sox and hasn't been since 2018.  Instead of actually rebuilding, they've been shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.  If John Henry were running the Celtics, they'd have the same coach, one veteran player, one up and coming player and 3 rookies in their starting lineup.  And they'd get the expected result.

At least the Sox to date this year have been far more entertaining than I expected, but entertaining is okay on a nightly basis, but winning is what gets fans excited about the next game.

Maybe some day they'll run the Red Sox like a winning organization again.  Like the Celtics.

Romy is halfway decent if he can stay no the field.  There seems to be more going on there than I originally thought.  Hopefully Hamilton can bounce back quickly, but ribs are always a pain to heal.

What's the over/under on O'Neill HR's tonight?

The Sox pulled Hamilton last night — discomfort in the ribs.  He did do a record five stolen bases with belly slides.

Dodgers also replacing Betts at SS. I guess the Sox SS job falls to Romy Gonzo by default.  Ceddanne is more essential in CF IMO.

For a team that played small ball at Fenway last week, they are now going deep.  O'Neill - his second — and Raphaela with more bombs.

Just got back from some errands, and it looks like O'Neill and Devers went back to back for a two spot.  They got zero home runs in the NYY series.

Quote from: longgame on June 17, 2024, 10:07:53 AMSpeaking of Casas, I'm thinking he's your 2045 color commentator for the Sox!

Casas proves that he is a better ball player than sports commentator.  He also showed what a terrible idea in game interviews are.

I loved it.  Sure beat listening to the ESPN guys, especially when Brayan Bello came out and told him stop all the porqueria, i.e. BS.

Soto was interesting as he had a couple of balls hit to him while playing but it was pretty funny when they asked him who had a better sound off the bat and he went and caught the ball and said "Harper".  But I definitely don't like the on field mics.
