Gotta think this is a make or break series. Lose this series or (God forbid) get swept, and it'll be yard sale time at Fenway.

Hoping that the Sox find a way to split this series.
HATE playing the Yankees.
Hard to be a Red Sox fan in New York.

I really cant be surprised at this point in the season.  When Bloom charted the parts for this team, he passed on the top first and second tier free agents and proceeded to pick late and low cost.

Maybe he thought the wunderkinds like Winchowski and Cutter would save the season and that Sale, Paxson and Casas would arrive just in time.  The Yanks unreal season blew Bloom's pipe dream away.

Agree 100%.  I think trying to play the inside straight makes sense if you're a small market like Tampa, but you shouldn't have to gamble so much with a payroll like Boston's.  They never seem to realize they are in competition with a tough division and the entirety of MLB.

You're right on there markj.  There is a very good chance that we could come up empty in this series and it would show just how far this team has tumbled over the past few years.  Bloom and Henry, the cheap bastard owner, thought they could win on the cheap this season after playing way over their heads last year but water seeks its own level and this is more like the team we have now.  Old pitchers, leaderless players, poor clutch hitters, a disastrous bullpen and a manager who has lost his way.  We can only hope our club can get a real second wind this coming series but even then a split might be the best we can do.  If we get swept there should be no pretense that we're dead in 2022 and a fire sale should commence and with Prune Face finally admitting that we are now in a big rebuilding mode.

The Yankees are playing outstanding baseball this season while we decided to try to win on the cheap.  Usually that doesn't work as it did in 2013 but Henry forgot that and is trying to replicate something that happens only rarely-----and it is not happening this season.  We get swept this series and it is rebuilding time and no more pretending that we are trying to win.  This is no longer fantasyland.  To be honest I don't even want to watch this series on TV this weekend.

Well how come our fellow board members know that and the Boston front office doesn't.  We are not a small or mid market team; we are a big market team but in mid 2019 owner John Henry decided he didn't want to spend the big bucks anymore and within months Mookie Betts was sent away for the damn Dodgers for most likely one decent player and two others who seem to be duds on the prospect chart.  We've been swimming upstream since.  Is all lost Ted????  If we at least split this series with the Yankees we still have a chance to make the post season.  If not we are toast, and the front office should simply admit it and plan for the future.  And John Henry should either put up the money as a big market team should or sell out and go live on his yacht or move to England.

Game over.
Yup.
Top of the 3rd inning with two outs,
then grand slam and homer.
Yankees 5 - Sox 0
CRAP

Eck's correct about Winckowski's outing and missing pitches, but he failed to mention those pitches are getting called strikes on the other side. 'Course it PO'd Devers to no end and he crushed one 4 rows deep, so that was fun.

We picked the wrong time of the year to go into one of our grip it and rip it funks. 3rd game we've been out of early in the past couple of weeks.

Good to see Plawecki get a hit. A couple more would be great. Wong and Ronaldo Hernandez are hittng well own there and chomping at the bit.

I think the curtain is drawing on this season.  The Sox only have two dependable pitchers, Pivetta and Wacha available.  And Wacha was scratched already this week with a ‘heavy arm’.  Maybe that’s better than a dead arm.

And Franchy is NOT a 1b. 3 games in the past week he's screwed the pooch. His mediocre bat is not worth the cost.

Duran needs to stop swinging for the fence. With his talent, he should be driving in runs with singles and doubles and not always be trying for the dinger. Maybe that's a problem with the Sox coaching staff.
