TWINS V RED SOX

THURSDAY, JUNE 29, 2017, 7 PM AT FENWAY PARK

TV:  NESN, FSNO, ESPN

MINNESOTA, ( 40-36)........................................................................................BOSTON, (43-35)

MINNESOTA:

KYLE GIBSON, RHP, 4-5, 6.23 ERA, 44K

Gibson went 4 2/3 innings against the Indians in his last start, and he
allowed one run on four hits and four walks.  In Three career starts against
Boston, Gibson is 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA and sixteen strikeouts in 20 2/3 innings
pitched.

BOSTON:

DAVID PRICE, LHP, 2-2, 4.76 ERA, 29K

The left-hander earned a quality start in his sixth outing since coming out
from the DL.  Price allowed six hits and two earned runs in six innings, but
was removed from the game due to complications from a cracked middle
finger nail.

Price out to hit the nail on the head vs. Twins

Red Sox left-hander David Price will test out his cracked left middle fingernail when he takes the mound against the Twins and right-hander Kyle Gibson in the series finale on Thursday night at Fenway Park.

Price (2-2, 4.76 ERA) sustained the cracked fingernail while pitching against the Angels on Saturday, and he was removed after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits over six innings on 103 pitches. But manager John Farrell said he doesn't expect it to be an issue.

"This is something that he's dealt with in the past and that he knows can lead to something that might affect him more," Farrell said. "He's a fierce competitor and he's of the mindset to complete and finish games. That's how he's wired and that's how he goes about his work in between starts to prepare for that physically."

THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME

• Gibson (4-5, 6.23 ERA) has been pitching better recently, posting a 4.01 ERA over his last six starts. He went 4 2/3 innings his last time out, limiting the Indians to one run on four hits and a season-high four walks. Gibson has pitched well at Fenway Park in two career starts, posting a 0.60 ERA with one run allowed in 15 innings.

• Command is essential for Price as he works through his rehabilitation on the mound, and in his last start against the Angels, he threw 44.7 percent of his pitches on the "edges" of the strike zone, based on Statcast's detailed zones metric, which marked his highest single-start rate of the season. Price hit the edges on 41 percent of his pitches in 2016, and 39.9 percent in '15.

• Twins third baseman Miguel Sano had been mired in an 0-for-16 slump before an RBI double in the first inning on Wednesday. Sano, the leader in balloting among American League third basemen for the All-Star Game, is 1-for-8 with two walks against Price. Second baseman Brian Dozier is the lone Twins player with a homer off Price, and he has two, but is just 6-for-33 against the lefty in his career.

Well what the F##K is wrong with Pedroia now?  Why can't that little shit stay healthy.  Did he get banged up again last night....again!!!!!  Lin and Marrero in the same lineup?  Hanley back in when we know he is badly hurting even if shitface Farrell doesn't?  Well all I can say is that Price better be on his game tonight and not give up more than one of two runs or he will see another "L" on his ledger with this shit lineup we're putting out there tonight.  Would a prayer help?????

Normally, this lineup would be able to absorb an injury to Pedroia.

The albatross in the room (pun intended) is Sandoval.  If he could hit and field like he did in SF, it wouldn't be an issue, and we could have Lin at 2B.

Price needs to show that he's moving in the right direction, building from his last start.  But, he'll need 3 runs of support which is a TALL order, considering the DeadBats.

Decent game for Price. If he had remembered to cover 1st the one inning he'd only given up 1 run.

I said maybe a prayer would help tonight IPOT.  Maybe it did---whoever said it.  Strange, the bottom of the order of Lin And Marrero came through--Line with two hits and Marrero with one and two RBI's and great to see Hanley unload.  I've been worried about him and still am convinced that he is not nearly 100% with legs, ankles and shoulder all barking at him.  We need him to come through for us, and finally we may seeing the real Mookie, three multiple hit games in the last four contests.  He's the catalyst and if he goes I think the team responds and goes too, but the guy I really felt for tonight was David Price.  Seven strong innings, three runs (one was his fault) and seven strikeouts.  Boy and do we need him to pitch up to par.  I would have liked to go better than 4-3 on this seven game home stand but it beats 3-4 or 2-5.  Now on the road to attempt to become road warriors.

3 out of 4. Nothing to complain about.

Three out of four against any team stands tall with me as it does you markj.  Funny that our three and four hitters went, what 0 for 8, but the bottom of the order did very well for a pleasant surprise, but what has happened to Bogaerts?  He seems to be in a deep funk and needs to open up on this road trip. I really hope sooner or later the team starts hitting in sync, and we need to keep Bradley hopping as he's been doing for the past couple of weeks.

Good win.  And 3 out of 4 indeed.  Bottom of the order did well.
And I wish this Hanley - who crushed that ball to deep center - would show up more.
