RED SOX V ORIOLES

SUNDAY, JUNE 4, 2017, 1:30 PM AT ORIOLE PARK, CAMDEN YARDS

TV:  NESN, MASN, MLBN, (OUT-OF-MARKET ONLY)

BOSTON, (30-25)...................................................................................BALTIMORE, (29-25)

BOSTON:

CHRIS SALE, LHP, 6-2, 2.77 ERA, 110K

Facing his former White Sox teammates on Tuesday, Sale gave up
six runs on ten hits but still picked up the win, his sixth of the year.
It was only the second appearance in which Sale hasn't produced
a quality start in 2017.

BALTIMORE:

CHRIS TILLMAN, RHP, 1-2, 5.87 ERA, 16K

Tillman is coming off his shortest outing of the season (2 2/3 innings),
in which he gave up five runs on seven hits, including three home runs.

The Red Sox will send ace Chris Sale to the mound in Sunday's series finale of a four-game set in a good pitching matchup against Orioles righty Chris Tillman.

Perhaps too amped up in his return to Chicago against the White Sox last time out, Sale gave up season highs of 10 hits and five runs while lasting a season-low five innings, though he still got the win.

In his first six starts, Sale was 2-2 with a 1.38 ERA and a .166 opponents' batting average. But, in his last five starts, he's 4-0 with a 4.73 ERA and .238 opponents' batting average.

"There's been nothing abnormal," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "I think there might have been an at-bat or a couples of at-bats where he'd like to take a pitch back, maybe go with a different pitch, particularly when he's been ahead in the count. There's been some base hits involved in there where, in that five-start run you were talking about, he either put them away with a changeup or breaking ball. But I can't say there's been anything change with him other than the game, the game of baseball."

For the Orioles, Tillman (1-2, 5.78) -- who led the O's with 16 wins and was their Opening Day starter a season ago -- has made just one quality start in his first five outings since opening this season on the disabled list. Opponents are hitting .323 off him thus far.

Tillman will try to rebound in Sunday's matinee and put his last outing of just 2 2/3 innings behind him.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME

• Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts has been shut down by Tillman in his career, going 2-for-20 (.100). But, for the Orioles, first baseman Chris Davis is just 1-for-12 (.083) against Sale.

• Sale leads the Majors in strikeouts with 110 on the season. Out of his 11 starts this year, the lefty has only had three outings in which he struck out fewer than 10 batters.

• Adam Jones has been on fire for the Orioles. Entering Saturday, Jones had hit four home runs with 10 RBIs in his past eight games.

Tillman needs to continue his awful 2017.   The bats need to seize on it (as tall an order that is for these guys sigh)

Sale picked a great time to hit the skids.  Against the CWS and now gives up 2 in the 1st...tie game.

Has nothing to do with pivoting enough. The guy put a fancy slide on just like all the players have been doing so much. Pedroia does it all the time. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Marrero fell asleep covering 2nd. Cost Sox a run eventually.

Still had time to get him at 2nd. Marrero knows he screwed up.
