TWINS V RED SOX
TUESDAY, JUNE 27, 2017, 7 PM AT FENWAY PARK
TV: NESN, FSNO
MINNESOTA, ( 39-36).................................................................................BOSTON, (42-34)
MINNESOTA:
HECTOR SANTIAGO, LHP, 4-6, 5.26 ERA, 47K
Santiago will make his first start since June 6, as the lefty will be
activated from the DL to take the mound against Boston, against whom
he is 3-3 with a 3.05 ERA in his career. In his only rehab outing, Santiago
tossed three scoreless frames.
BOSTON:
DREW POMERANZ, LHP, 6-4, 4.07 ERA, 82K
The lefty earned a no-decision in his last start after striking out five
and allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings. Pomeranz's last start marked the
second time this season he's made it into the sixth inning in consecutive
starts.
Twins' Santiago returns from DL to face Red Sox
Rhett Bollinger
After missing three weeks with a left shoulder strain, veteran left-hander Hector Santiago is set to rejoin the rotation and start for the Twins on Tuesday against the Red Sox in the second game of the four-game set at Fenway Park. Fellow lefty Drew Pomeranz (6-4, 4.07 ERA) starts for Boston.
It's the first start since June 6 for Santiago (4-6, 5.26 ERA), who made one rehab appearance with Triple-A Rochester, throwing three scoreless innings on Wednesday. Santiago didn't allow a hit and threw 57 pitches, so he's expected to be stretched out to throw roughly 75-80 pitches vs. the Red Sox. The Twins optioned Dillon Gee to Rochester on Monday to make room for Santiago on the roster.
Pomeranz, meanwhile, is coming off a no-decision against the Royals on Wednesday, surrendering two runs on six hits and a walk with five strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME
• Pomeranz has been pitching well recently, posting a 3.21 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 42 innings over his last eight starts. Pomeranz has made two career appearances against the Twins, including one start, allowing six runs (four earned) over 5 1/3 innings.
• Santiago got off to a strong start this season with a 2.76 ERA through his first seven starts, but he had a 9.93 ERA over his next six appearances (five starts) before landing on the disabled list. The Twins, who have had their pitching depth tested in recent weeks, are hopeful Santiago can get back on track now that he's healthy. He's had success against the Red Sox in his career, posting a 3.05 ERA with 47 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings.
• Barrels, batted balls with an ideal combination of exit velocity and launch angle, are the most dangerous type of contact for a pitcher. Santiago has allowed a barrel on 11.6 percent of balls in play against him, the highest rate among 100 pitchers with at least 200 balls in play against them this season.

Hope he keeps it up. We'll need another 1 run allowed thru 6 inns.

Farrell, you no good dumb son of a bitch, why is Marrero back in the lineup? That new kid played last night and got a hit. What the @#$% is the matter with Farrell. He is even dumber or more stubborn that I thought. And Moreland can hit lefties. He is now our hottest hitter and since Young hasn't hit worth shit the past month we could have put Travis at DH---and Leon should be catching. He hits much better than Vazquez and we usually win with Sonny and lose with Christian.
We got 5 runs through 4? That's not a typo on the scoreboard?
And Pomeranz nails Dozier with a big K to get out of a jam caused by Marrero.

Could of been a really crap inning with the error, wild pitch and the infield single which the runner should of been out for being out of the base line but it's not reviewable. Not sure how the ump could miss it since there is a line to help him make the call. Was a great job by Pomeranz.
Nice catch by Betts to end the top o' the 6th.
9-1, wow, where are all the runs coming from? Good job so far. Yankees lose 4/3
To bad we were stupid enough to let Vazquez and Young play. They only went 2/5 with 4 walks and 5 RBI and no strike outs. Oh wait...............
Good job so far by Boyer and Abad. I'll trade a hr for 3 outs. 9-2 going to the bottom of the 8th.
A 9-2 Sox win. All alone in 1st place since the Yanks lost. On to Wednesday. Let's go Rick Porcello.
Pomeranz now entrenched as the Sox #2 starter and worked hard to deserve it.
Kudos to Vaz and Young as they led the Sox to a big W.
No more Pompom. Pomeranz with a impressive 3.00 ERA in June.
Back to a tie for 1st with the Yanks.
I am not yet ready to go to the Crow Mart for a helping of Crow (medium well) on Pomeranz, but I am getting close.
All should feel a hell of a lot better towards Pomeranz than any SP not named Sale.I am not anointing him a savior just pointing out to those that are concerned that for now he looks like our #2 SP since not one else seems to want it.
Pomeranz is a solid 5 inning guy, but still have to be happy he persevered through the rain delay and came back out. Good win for the Sox. Maybe because Farrell was out? ;) ;)

And where do you think JF was during the game or rain delay?
Probably in the dugout. He was allowed in the stands. iono

You asked for it and now you're going to get it.....right in the balls. Be careful what you say; on the other hand, don't be. I'll be waiting to unload on you Georgie. Drew has been pitching very well for us and he might have turned his season around this month. My only wish is that he could pitch into the seventh or eighth inning on occasion. I still worry that our bullpen might be gassed by lat August. Then, again, that could go for most of the bullpens in the league since all the teams seem to be going to their relievers more frequently this season.

And where do you think JF was during the game or rain delay?
He was serving a one game suspension for his altercation with the umpire
from a different game.
Sox played well without him - EVEN with two rain delays!

I know he was serving a suspension. But you can be sure he wasn't far away.

Nowhere close since he wasn't allowed anywhere near the clubhouse.

Nowhere close? He made the lineup out for the game. And to top it off he gets credit for the win not the 1 game manager.
