Title: GAME #75, LA ANGELS AT BOSTON RED SOX
Post by: Bear on June 25, 2017, 02:04:21 AM
ANGELS V RED SOX

SUNDAY, JUNE 25, 2017, 1:30 PM AT FENWAY PARK

TV:  NESN, FS-W

ANAHEIM, (39-39)....................................................................................BOSTON, (41-33)

ANAHEIM:

PARKER BRIDWELL, RHP, 1-0, 3:07 ERA, 8K

Bridwell is slated to make his second start in place of the injured Matt
Shoemaker.  The 25-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.07 ERA in three
spot starts this season.

BOSTON:

DOUG FISTER, RHP, 0-0, -.-, 0K

Fister will make his first start of the season after being claimed off of
waivers from the Angels on Friday.  In 32 starts for the Astros last year,
the righty went 12-13 with a 4.64 ERA

Fister to start vs. Angels, who released him

Evan Chronis

Less than 48 hours after being put on the 25-man roster, Doug Fister will make his season debut for the Red Sox on Sunday afternoon.

His opponent? The team that placed him on the waiver wire just two days prior -- the Angels.

Boston claimed Fister off of waivers from Anaheim on Friday, and the right-hander will take a starting spot in Boston's rotation while Eduardo Rodriguez continues to recover from a right knee injury.

This is Fister's first Major League stint since going 12-13 in 32 starts for the Astros in 2016.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said a veteran pitcher acquisition was necessary given the injury troubles plaguing the starting rotation.

"With Doug coming in and being inserted right into the rotation, this is an opportunity for him to continue his big league career," Farrell added. "The need, because of some unfortunate injuries, presents itself for Doug to take advantage of. He's a veteran guy and we're looking forward to him on the mound tomorrow."

Fister will join former teammate Rick Porcello in the Red Sox rotation. The two played together in Detroit from 2012-13.
"All the guys here have really opened their arms and welcomed me in, but knowing some of the guys here has definitely eased the transition," Fister said.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, who also knows Fister from their time in Detroit, said he fits a current need.

"For us, this guy is a good pitcher," Dombrowski said Friday. "Now, I know his stuff isn't quite the same as it was in the past … but he can be an effective big league starter for us."

As for the familiar organization he'll be facing on Sunday, Fister says it won't faze him.
"That's funny and ironic how the world goes," he said. "For me it's just like any other start. I've got to go out there and get 27 outs."

The Angels will counter with Parker Bridwell (1-0, 3.07 ERA), who will be making his fourth appearance and third spot start of the season.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME

• As a member of the Astros, Fister started against the Angels three times last season, going 1-0. He gave up a total of five runs in 18 innings pitched against the Halos.

• Sunday's start will be the 200th of Fister's Major League career. His 3.60 career ERA is 16th lowest among active MLB pitchers.

• Angels third baseman Cliff Pennington has struggled against Fister throughout his career. He's 2-for-25 lifetime against the righty, with seven strikeouts.

Like Marrero's defense. That being said he needs to go. He just can not hit. Most of the time he misses the ball by a country mile. He just can't be an everyday player.

CONCUR, like the glove, but when you can't execute a hit in run, it is time to go .... Fister pitched well, again little O-support and J F has to roll the dice to let him come out for the 7th, goes over 100 pitches & leaves with 2 on for Scott which could add to the angels lead....We will see.. iono

Admire this team's consistency when it comes to being DeadBats through the first 6 innings.  Game after game.

Fister pitched pretty well today. Was a split second away from not giving up any runs in the 2nd but the Sox didn't quite turn the DP. He still could of got out of it with only 1 given up but he didn't. Overall he looked ok. Deserves another shot.

No players defense good enough when you struggle to come close to a. 200 BA.

Hard to win when the first 3 guys in the order have no hits or walks. Betts and Pedroia have been awful for the last few games. Add Marrero at the number 9 position and you had 4 guys in a row 9,1,2,3 who were a hole today.

It was a waste of Fister and as it turned out Kimbrel too......  I like the way the Angels are always looking to run & force the pitcher & defense to make mistakes..... Good luck Jerry Remey on Monday !! thumb_u

Same team as yesterday. Consistently mediocre in mediocre division. Every one who starts against this ten should get a Cy Young

This Red Sox team just has not got the offense to consistenly come back late in games.  Seems that get down 2/3 runs in the seventh you might as well take a nap.

HAN/RAM & 3rd base is killing them....J F needs to play more small ball to get things going !!

This team is on paste to get 150 runs less than the 2016.
That's wha t happens when you hav e little power and depend on 3 hits for a run.

They have a run differential of 32. Last season it was 184. Right on that pace. We (and I) may think the pitching is garbage, but they are still the top ranked staff in the league.

This was a classic John Farrell loss.  How many times are the Sox going to go into a game against a guy they've never seen and be completely baffled?  Don't they watch these guys on tape?  Don't they do a breakdown of what to expect?  Don't they come up with an approach to the game?  It just seems like if they get it all together, for the most part the starters are good enough to give them a win.  But if one little thing is off, they fall apart.  How can a team be this poor offensively at times?  The defense is so-so, at times shoddy, but this team rises and falls on whether it can manage to score more than 1 or 2 runs.  They have the talent, the coaching is letting them down.

A lot of truth to the above !!  They need to play sound fundamental baseball....  Take what the pitcher gives you and keep the defense guessing !! sigh

I would think the Stros ...Tribe and the Yanks would have something to say about that.

First we have to accept a couple of very uncomfortable truths.  Mookie Betts was horseshit this weekend and aside from he and his two outfield cohorts exchanging that ridiculous bump after a win he has run away from providing some leadership like it was a love grenade.  And he is NOT  a leadoff man.  He should be batting third where he might really do some damage.  Since Pedroia doesn't steal bases anymore (and he shouldn't  since every time he does he seems to get hurt) he can bat first because he has in the past and done well there (think 2007 and 2016)  Bogaerts is soft and is not tough.  To me any way, that is a fact.  He doesn't get a hit and we have to fear he will take it out to defense with him.  I no ticed how he  took his eyes off the ball on Saturday on that pickoff play  when he saw that runner coming at him.  He to me acts like he is chicken shit.  He also didn't hit worth a damn the whole weekend except for his first at bat on Friday.  This team lacks a leader and we have dead weight on the team with  the worst hi tter in baseball totally polluting the lineup.  Let me just say Marrero is the crappiest looking hitter I have ever seen.  Yes, he is that pathetic.  He should be sent down or released, not playing  third base, an offensive position.  What the #$%& is Dombrowski waiting for?  Is he really under Prune Face's orders that Sandoval must play when he can?   Pure crap/
