INDIANS V RED SOX

MONDAY, JULY 31, 2017, 7 PM AT FENWAY PARK

TV:  NESN, ESPN, SPORTS OHIO

CLEVELAND, (57-46)....................................................................................BOSTON, (57-49)

CLEVELAND:

MIKE CLEVINGER, RHP, 5-3, 3.20 ERA, 78K

Clevinger endured a rough outing Tuesday, giving up six runs (five earned) in
4 1/3 innings against the Angels.  Even with that outing, the righty has a 2.41 ERA
in his last seven starts.

BOSTON:

DOUG FISTER, RHP, 0-5, 7.46 ERA, 21K

The righty will be inserted back into the rotation due to David Price landing on
the disabled list.  In his last start before being moved into the bullpen officially, Fister
gave up six runs and four walks in 4 1/3 innings vs the Blue Jays on July 20.

Clevinger, Fister set to square off at Fenway

There might not be a hotter team in the American League than the Indians.

The defending AL champs will look to maintain their hot play -- they had a nine-game winning streak before Sunday's walk-off loss to the White Sox -- while continuing their road trip in Boston against Doug Fister (0-5, 7.46 ERA) at Fenway Park.

Cleveland will send right-hander Mike Clevinger (5-3, 3.20 ERA) to the mound in the first of a three-game set on Monday. The 26-year-old right-hander is coming off his worst start in almost two months, allowing more than two runs in an outing for the first time since June 6, when he allowed six runs (five earned) over 4 1/3 innings against the Angels on July 25.
The poor outing snapped a streak of four consecutive quality starts for Clevinger, who hasn't allowed an earned run in four of his 13 starts.

Fister has struggled since coming to Boston just over a month ago, including a move to the bullpen for his last two outings. The right-hander came to the Red Sox after exercising his out option with the Angels, but hasn't allowed fewer than three runs in any of his four starts. This will be his first start since July 20, when he allowed six runs over 4 1/3 innings in a loss against the Blue Jays.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME

• Clevinger has never faced the Red Sox, and he'll be making just his third start against an AL East foe. Meanwhile, Fister has started against the Indians 16 times in his career; he's 5-4 with a 3.13 ERA.

• This is a matchup of two of the premier pitching staffs in the American League. The Indians and Red Sox entered the week ranking first and second in the AL with ERAs of 3.69 and 3.71, respectively. The Indians also entered with the best bullpen in baseball with a 2.73 ERA, while the Red Sox were third at 2.91.

• Indians shortstop Francisco Lindor has been on a tear since the All-Star break. He has a 10-game hitting streak, and had reached safely in 15 of the first 16 games after the break, including a .369 average.

With a tad more than a hour left tons of rumors flying that the Sox are DONE FOR THE DAY.
Time will tell if the talking heads are right.

They're going nowhere with this lineup.  Just a mediocre team in a heap of pseudo-WCs.

Tonight: CLE 7 BOS 2.

I have it 8-2.  He benches Benintendi, who, admittedly, is in a funk, but he keeps starting Bogaerts and Moreland who have been in a funk for close to two months?  How the hell can you expect to win with a lineup like this and Fister, who should be out stealing hub caps instead of pitching for our team or any team?  You have it 7-2; I have it 8-2 , and we don't have the 8.

And just like that Fisty has a three run margin.

And of course Bogaerts come to bat with a runner in scoring position and two outs and he fails for the upteenth time to get a clutch hit.  He is like clockwork, the filthy choker.  Hope Fister has one of his rare good games.  So far so good, but we could use about three or four more runs.
