Title: GAME #120, ST LOUIS CARDINALS AT BOSTON RED SOX
Post by: Bear on August 16, 2017, 01:06:14 AM
CARDINALS V RED SOX

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 16, 2017, 7 PM AT FENWAY PARK

TV:  NESN, FS-M

ST LOUIS, (61-58)............................................................................................BOSTON,(68-51)

ST LOUIS:

LANCE LYNN, RHP, 10-6, 3.12 ERA, 117K

In his most recent start, Lance allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits over six
innings in a no-decision.  He has not allowed more than two earned runs in a game since
June 29.  He is 0-1 with a 2.08 ERA in two career starts vs. Boston.

BOSTON:

EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ, LHP, 4-3, 3.80 ERA, 96K

The lefty turned in his best performance since returning from the disabled list last time
out, firing six shutout innings against the Yankees.  Rodriguez picked up a win over the
Cardinals in St. Louis on May 16, allowing three runs over six innings.

E-Rod tasked with cooling off hot Cards

Quinn Roberts

The Cardinals and Red Sox finish a quick two-game series at Fenway Park on Wednesday with a rematch between St. Louis right-hander Lance Lynn and Boston left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez.

The pitchers faced off on May 16 in St. Louis, with Rodriguez getting the win after allowing three runs on five hits in six innings. Lynn allowed four runs (two earned) on three hits in six innings for the loss.

"They have some new faces since we saw them in May," Red Sox manager John Farrell said. "The schedule works out and you sort of have a familiarity there."

The Red Sox lead the American League East by 4 1/2 games while the Cardinals find themselves 1 1/2 games back of the Cubs in the National League Central.

Both starters are on quite a roll. Since July 1, Lynn is 4-1 with a 1.61 ERA, which leads the Majors. Rodriguez has allowed just two runs on six hits over his last two starts.

Before the game gets underway, the Red Sox will honor the 1967 "Impossible Dream" team, which won the American League pennant for the first time since 1946.

Nearly 20 players from the team will attend the ceremony, including Carl Yastrzemski, Jim Lonborg and Rico Petrocelli. The ceremony will be live streamed on redsox.com.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME

• Lynn has held opposing teams to two earned runs or fewer in 18 starts, which leads the Majors. He hasn't allowed more than two earned runs since June 29.

• Lynn is 5-8 with a 3.73 ERA in 22 games (19 starts) during Interleague Play.

• While Rodriguez struck out seven and allowed just two hits over seven scoreless innings in his start against the Yankees on Friday, 53.9 percent of the batted balls against him were hit with at least a 95-mph exit velocity according to Statcast -- the second-highest single-game rate of his career.

Going to the game tonight and can`t wait to see Yaz and the gang from the 67 DREAM year.
Tonight would be ideal for Erod to step up and go 7 strong innings.

Men on 1st and 3rd and one out. You know the GIDP was coming. Why can't these bozos lift the ball? Just once in a while would be nice.

Would of been great if Vaz hadn't swung at ball 4 the pitch before the DP. Ball was well inside and fouled it off himself.

Had a little luck at the end that Molina didn't pick that ball at the plate but would of gone extra's if needed. The pen did a nice job. Kimbrel with the win. The never give up Sox. On to Friday.

Wish E-Rod would figure out how to go longer in the game. 5.1 innings tonight and only 6 the other night. Around 98 pitches tonight and 107 the other night. Way to many pitches for the innings thrown.

Very nice win tonight!  It was big to keep that cushion over NY, we don't want them getting any ideas coming into town this weekend.  I also like that this is becoming a trend which it was in past winning teams.  Never out of a game.

I was a little unsure pulling Vazquez for two reasons - you knew they'd bring in the righty and Vaz is hitting .367 or something at home - but he was also a DP risk, and hey, it worked out!  Glad to see Betts come through with a big hit, if he and Bogey come up big that's a big lift to this team.

That reliever from St. Louis won't do well with the pitch clock next year!

Finally got my computer working with the flash drive working and saw most of the game and was fortunate to tune in AFTER the Cardinals got four in the second. We need all the wins we can get and to hold our ground with that rally was a nice way to win the game.  Two dramatic wins for two of our last three wins is nice, and it would be nicer if we could find a way to get Fister out of the rotation once and for all.  He is almost our designated LOSER.  If only the damn Mets could beat the Yankees just once.  They have one more chance tomorrow but let's all of us hope for the best but not hold our breath either.  Still, it would be nice to pick up a little more ground without having to throw a ball of swing a bat.

Remember when Steinbrenner bitched and moaned every year about how unfair it was that they had to fac the mets as an interleague rival every year? How times change.

The time out call was still done before that statue started pitching. I'm not sure what Molina was griping about so intently.

Doesn't it seem like the umps are hating their jobs these days? The players are openlu bitching about everything remotely close. Does not seem very healthy, for lack of a better word.

In baseball the level of technology can make umpires as relevent as a ref in the ring at a WWE match. In this instance the ump was correct and more are needed to get the game rolling.

What a great game to be at watching the 67 greats  Yaz  Reggie  Rico and others. XB with his last row HR into the Monster seats and Mookies wall ball walk-off.   Seeing JBJ flying around 3rd my 1st thought was WHAT THE ... are you doing .When Molina couldn`t hold onto to the throw that had beat him to the plate the crowd's roar was deafening.

I was thinking the same.  But we swept the Cards so it's not like the NL has done the rest of the AL any favors in terms of beating anyone.

I got inspired and watched the "Impossible Dream Season" that I recorded a couple of weeks ago.  Hard to see now how pathetic the team was up to that time for almost two decades and how so few came to the ballpark.  BTW, Saturday is an anniversary of sorts for me because it was on August 19th, 2000, that I became a Red Sox fan.  I hope to have a good day Saturday and that can happen if the Red Sox beat the Yankees that evening.

1967 was an example of having patience with young players.  Yaz was 27-years-old and the oldest position player. The team was loaded with young talent.
