Title: JBJ DFA'd
Post by: longgame on August 04, 2022, 08:18:21 AM
Wow, I was shocked.  I wonder if they tried to move him?  Leaves them a bit thin in the OF but I'm not sad to see him go. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/08/red-sox-dfa-jackie-bradley-jr.html

The 3 B's from the 2018 outfield is history, my friends.  Also what has become of JDM? he was of no value at the deadline, batting .145 in his last 35 AB.  Meanwhile the always erratic Dalbec is batting .420 in his last 25.

Apparently if they can't deal him they'll be on the hook for his salary this year and next.  So when they whine about the salary cap, just remember that!

One of the dumbest requisition in Red Sox history.

There was no reason to wait until the trade deadline to address the deficient OF or 1B, and they waited until the last minute, didn't really upgrade greatly (they sign one OF and designate two for assignment?) and got lucky a 1B came on the market cheap.  We've had situations where the team was badly managed on the field - like when we had Bobby V - but this takes the cake for inept front office performances.

Lou Merlin was spot on when he ripped Bloom for his lack of a sense of urgency.  Reportedly Bloom considered Pham in February but did not move on it.  So why he waited until.now is a mystery.. Of course in my mind he never should have let Renfroe and Shwarber go.

The Renfroe for JBJ and Beni for Franchy/Winchy deals were both a culmination of idiotic attempts to fix two corner OF spots (who knew Franchy could play 1B?). They were both Tampa specials - sell high while they're hot.  I think Henry likes the smaller market style.  Yet he is still a third year over the LT tax line,  and he has a big market fanbase to deal with, not TampaBay.

The balance of the JBJ trade with Brewers is the value of 3B Binelas and Hamilton.  Binelas is a very good hitter in AA, but his defense is mediocre, putting him at 1B or DH.  The Beni trade gave us three kids in the FDL in Florida. Translates to two or more years before they’re up or become mor trade chips.

I was shocked too Ted and paid no mind to it when they said he was DFA'd because I know that means squat where the Red Sox are concerned, seeing 90% of the time they go unclaimed and back they are in the Red Sox Farm System, like French Fry last season.   Back with us this year, he sucked save for three weeks when he showed a little promise with the bat until the pitchers caught up with him.  Then we was useless because he was even a worse fielder than hitter.....if that was possible.  Believe me where Bradley was concerned they certainly tried to move him but as I have said all along he has no market.  I am surprised Boras was able to sweet talk Milwaukee to take a flyer on him.  How did that work out too?  The worse batting average in baseball last season.

Now under no circumstances must the RedSox get stupid and sign this guy next season.  He is apparently gone and good riddance.  I thought we'd never be rid of him.

JBJ had a great 60 game season in 2020. That earned him a mighty big prize and Boras got it for him. He turned down a Qualifying Offer, IIRC, too.

Well, it was time.

On a related note.....

Everyone, go look at last night's (Thursday) starting lineup for the Worcester/Durham game and tell me what you see. (Hint: leadoff hitter.) Fred, please maybe drink one less cup of coffee and/or have that one pill your wife and doctor harps on you to take nearby.

and he raked too - 3 for 5!  Meanwhile the pitchers, started off by Wacha, threw a no-hitter.

That no-no was good to see after they got slammed a few nights ago by something like 16-0. Trade Deadline day. Groome was supposed to start. Last minute BP game.

Yeah, man. Of course Franchy raked. He raked HUGE for 3-4 weeks after getting sent down last year. It was so impressive that his overall AAA numbers for 2021 still looked good after a month long slump.

What a specimen it is when he catches lightning in a bottle and it all works.

I was just thinking how remarkable it is that we are waiting to get Kike back, a guy I've never been too big on, and he will be our best outfielder.  Doesn't say a lot about the rest of them.

What is more illogical, Franchy leading off for Woosox or Jaylin Davis (18 PA)leading off for Boston, in the climax of the season? 50+ games left, and mgt. is still tinkering with worthless fill-ins on the way to last place.  The remaining heavy schedule won’t go away.

Mongo, I don't have access to Worcester/Durham gave since I live in California so please enlighten me who led off/  As for one less cup of coffee, it is one less than what I HAVE HAD OF THAT BEVERAGE IN 45  YEARS.  My last cup was in 1977.  And for the record, I have taken all my pills religiously every morning and every evening without fail.  But thanks anyway for your concern.  I do have a animus for a few players on our team and you pretty much know who they are.

That was a light-heart joke. Admittedly difficult to do in this type of media. Good natured joking around with a friend is my only intention.

But yeah, the Sox are obviously trying to get Franchy going again, so to speak, by having him lead off down in Worcester. At least for the first game. No chance for a DFA, I'd bet.

Mongo, I took it as a joke........no serious reaction on my part at all. Besides, I am open season on quips, jokes and puns on this board.  I love the guys here and am only sorry they have to suffer as I have as we see our beloved team having one problem after another.   Also, it would be very nice to see our team go on a little winning streak at least  to save face for themselves and give us a little hope that the future might not be so full of pitfalls as we are currently in.  All the best to you my friend.

Franchy led off tonight with a HR.  He’s a great AAA player.
