RED SOX V MARINERS
TUESDAY, JULY 25, 2017, 10 PM AT SAFECO FIELD
TV: NESN, ROOTNW
BOSTON, (55-46)......................................................................................SEATTLE, (50-51)
BOSTON:
DREW POMERANZ, LHP, 10-4, 3.51 ERA, 108K
The lefty is on one of the best runs of his career, in his last eleven
starts, Pomeranz is 7-1 with a 2.64 ERA. In nine road starts, Pomeranz
is 4-2 with a 3.04 ERA
SEATTLE:
FELIX HERNANDEZ, RHP, 5-4, 3.88 ERA, 60K
The veteran appears back on track, posting a 1.00 ERA over his three
starts with just 11 hits and 22 strikeouts in 18 innings. This will be his
first time facing Boston this year, but he's 8-4 with a 3.90 ERA in 18 career
starts against the Sox.
Devers to face King Felix in Red Sox debut
Josh Horton
Welcome to The Show and an American League East pennant race, kid.
Red Sox top prospect Rafael Devers will make his first Major League start on Tuesday night against the Mariners at Safeco Field. He'll face Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez opposite Boston lefty Drew Pomeranz, one of the hottest pitchers in the game.
The 20-year-old third baseman and MLB's No. 4 prospect, according to MLBPipeline.com, cruised through Boston's Minor League system, playing just nine games in Triple-A Pawtucket before receiving his big league callup. He's ecstatic to face an established Major League pitcher like Hernandez (5-4, 3.88 ERA) in his first start.
"I admire him because he's a pitcher who has won Cy Youngs before," Devers said. "To be able to face him and watch him pitch is an awesome experience."
Hernandez (5-4, 3.88) has been on a roll lately, going 2-1 with a 1.00 ERA in his last three starts.
Pomeranz (10-4, 3.51 ERA) is having one of the best stretches of his career, owning a 7-1 record with a 2.64 ERA in his last 11 starts. He issued five walks in his last start on Wednesday against the Blue Jays, but he limited the damage to allow one unearned run on three hits in 6 2/3 innings.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME
• Pomeranz has fared well against the Mariners in his big league career, posting a 3.51 ERA in 12 appearances (three starts) versus Seattle.
• The long ball has hurt Hernandez more than it has in the past. His 1.9 home runs per nine innings is the highest of his career, with his next closest at 1.1 (2008 and '16).
• Mariners outfielder Ben Gamel is on an 11-game hit streak.

The likeability of this Sox team took a huge hit today IMO. Ownership needs to address it. Your fans don't like your team. That's a problem
This says it all......
Yup!!!.
Sox have been shut out 9 times in 2017 only 6 times in 2016.
Since April 15th Red Sox catchers are batting .233/.282/.321, 45% worse than league average, ranking 29th in MLB.

But 16 times the year before, if I recall correctly.

I believe it was in 2014 and 14 times. Not sure I`ll check later. Yes it was 2014
Make no mistake about it, BIG GAME TONIGHT........ The ROOKIE against HERNANDEZ, what a way to start ?? Good luck, KID !! thumb_u rofl

Sox are taking an absolute beating PR-wise over this. The magnitude of it is fast approaching 2011's "chicken and beer parties" level.
Boston Strong @BostonStrong_34
The Red Sox have 'strong interest' for SS Zack Cozart, he's not in the Reds lineup tonight in the Bronx.
Hmmm!!!

I don't have my game scores for that year any longer, but baseball-reference.com lists 15 shutouts for 2014. I thought they'd hit 10% (or 16) for that year, but maybe I'm wrong. Either way, that was a brutal year.
Well, won't be staying up too late watching this one. Sox down 3-0 in the 2nd.

SAD to think that our team is already out of this game.
WHAT has happened to this team??????
CRAP.
4 game losing streak . . .
AND the Yankees and the Rays won tonight.
Luckily this ended in the 3rd inning. You can't even blame Pomeranz since the offense won't get more than 1-2 runs at best anyway.
This team is headed for the gutter. 6-12 since the aberration that was a 6 game winning streak.
Even the 2012 Valentine squad was more fun to watch.
And whoop-de-do, Hanley puts us on the board. At least no shutout.
Was about to post the same thing. Don't need 4 shutouts in one month. Still a week to go, though.
Pomeranz gets out of a jam to keep it within reach. Maybe. That one pitch that ended up in the bleachers cost him big time. Otherwise he's been doing what he's done the past 6 or 7 games. Solid enough, but high PC and a pre-7th inning exit.
Unfortunately, King Felix is cruising at 53 pitches in the 5th inning. He'll be here for a good part of the game.
Betts K's swinging at a pitch that has a different zip code than Safeco Field. Geez.
Wow, Pedey drives in 2 to tie it up. Whoda thunk it?
JBJ drives in Pedey to put the Sox up 4-3. Will wonders never cease?
Tie game.
Sox 4 - Mariners 4
Going to the bottom of the 10th inning.
I have to go to bed . . .
Would love to see them pull out a win . . .
Bottom 12th coming up at 2:30 a.m. Tied at 4.
On to the 13th.
Sox lead 5-4 going to bottom of the 13th. RBI single driving in Hanley from 2nd.
Oh Lord, it's Fister....of all the relievers we're using Fister.
Farrell: It's his turn!
***********************************
It's games like this I enjoyed Orsillo and Remy....at least they made us laugh.
3:04 in the morning, and Fister gives up a hit.
men on 1 and 3, wild pitch ties the game.
13th inning, 5-5 game.
Good night George.
Sox lose 6-5 at 3:10 a.m. after being 1 strike away from winning the game.
That was cute. They came back, tied it, took the lead - but Hembree did his thing and Farrell putting Fister out there was essentially throwing in the towel.
Plus ya ain't going anywhere if your bats go cold for 6 straight innings. They did nada from innings 7 - 12
Slip, sliding into the WC pack, this team...

Throwing in the towel? Fister pitched 2.2 scoreless innings. Was 1 strike away from winning the game with only a runner on 1st. Just couldn't get that 3rd out.
Sad days.
I did tune in for a couple innings before bed. Saw the new kid walk and score, and Pedey and Bradley got RBIs. That was fun. I did wake in time to see Mr Fundamentals get hit in the hand with a bunt attempt and Devers hit a tapper somewhere to end that inning. Glad I missed the rest.
Today should be interesting. We need to clear a spot for Boyer, from what I hear.

Sure, George, and on my 200X scratch ticket 10M was #43 and I had #42....just could not get that last number. 8)
What I don't understand is why Farrell uses Kimbrel for
one inning in a tie game.
Wouldn't it be better to hold off and see if your team
takes the lead AND then put him in??
AND granted Fister pitched 2 scoreless innings -
Didn't they have Abad or Taylor available?
DANG IT -
They made a game out of it
AND Hembree and Fister blew it.
DANG IT!
& light DAWNS on MARBLEHEAD !! Hang in there ALL, as I see TRADER D D is not through yet.... NUNEZ is here & I feel a BLOCKBUSTER coming !! thumb_u iono rofl
5-10 for their last 15. Ouch.
One behind the NYY and looking up is not good.
With Nunez on board wondering if they keep Devers up.I would and send Holt down .
Just my opinion.
Sale really needs his biggest WIN as a Sox .If they lose today then hit KC who are 8-2 in last 10 playing much better .This could get ugly fast and the door will be WIDE OPEN FOR FARRELL.
Not sure why Kimbrel was out there without a lead. Another tough loss...

Yup, and if one of Segura's fouls landed fair - or he made contact with the swinging strike - the game would have been over in the 11th. Or maybe, Hanley, who had hit a HR, didn't GIDP in the 8th with 1 out.
This team is not getting it done. 6-12 since leaving TEX. .350 winning percentage.

Hmmm my ass. Anyone out there still think that I am wrong about Pukegaerts? He sucks to high heaven. Another ofer last night and since I didn't stay up and watch the game since I knew the outcome before it even began, I wonder how many @#$%^& runners he left on base last night. Well at least I'm a little ahead of the curve and pre-empts Merloni on th at one. I haven't liked this team since the third week of the season and now I can say without a doubt that I was right all along....to wit THIS IS A FIRST CLASS SHITTY TEAM AND I DESPISE IT . We better get Cozart and get that fu@@in' choker out of town. As for Fister, shoot the bastard.

He couldn't get the last out because he is a God damn loser. He has failed to get the last out too many times since we signed t hat dork to a contract. He is now 0-5. He hasn't won a game, hasn't held a lead, hasn't saved a game. All he does is lose.

One of those meh games you're talking about was one I attended and it wasn't any meh game to me. It was a total choke-up effort. An inning ending DP was overturned by the camera in NY and so Fister could bow his neck and get the third out and escape further trouble. Instead he got hammered for two booming doubles and a clothes-line hit and cost us two more runs and took us out the ball game. It was meh----it was a sign of what this piece of pitching crap was going to give us.....nothing.
Monday night Hector went 7 innings and took a loss - allowed 2 runs.
