Title: GAME #74, LA ANGELS AT BOSTON RED SOX
Post by: Bear on June 24, 2017, 03:08:59 AM
ANGELS V RED SOX

SATURDAY, JUNE 24, 2017, 7 PM AT FENWAY PARK

TV:  FOX
ANAHEIM, (38-39)............................................................................................BOSTON, (41-32)

ANAHEIM:

JC RAMIREZ, RHP, 6-5, 4.59 ERA, 67K

Ramirez took the loss in his last start against the Royals on Sunday,
after surrendering five runs over three innings.  He has tossed four
scoreless innings in four career relief appearance against the Red Sox.

BOSTON:

DAVID PRICE, LHP, 2-1, 5.14 ERA, 24K

After a strong first couple of starts back from the disabled list, Price
has been hit hard of late, giving up 12 earned runs in his last 16 innings.
Price's control hasn't been as good as usual, as he has 14 walks in 28
innings.

Facing Angels, Price aims to cut down on walks

Evan Chronis

David Price will look to gain control of his pitch command when he faces the Angels on Saturday night.

The lefty, who is 2-1 with a 5.14 ERA and making his sixth start of the season, has hit a rough patch recently by allowing a combined 11 walks in his past three starts. Consequently, Price has given up 12 earned runs in his last 16 innings pitched.

Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski hinted on Friday that Price is close to being back to the form he showed before injuring his throwing elbow prior to the start of the season.

"David Price continues to make strides to come back," Dombrowski said. "His stuff is good, he's just got to get back."
Angels righty JC Ramirez (6-5, 4.59 ERA) comes into this start in a similar boat as Price. Ramirez was charged with a loss in his last outing against the Royals, giving up a career-high four walks in a career-worst three innings.
Ramirez threw 89 pitches in the short-lived start.

"I want to go six and seven innings," Ramirez said. "I think it wasn't a bad start. I just threw a lot of pitches."
THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME

• Yunel Escobar and slugger Albert Pujols are the only two Angels with more than 20 at-bats against Price in their career. Pujols has an interesting record against the lefty, as he's 4-for-22 against Price, but has bested him for two home runs.

• Ramirez is a familiar foe for the Red Sox, but never as a starter. The righty has four career appearances against Boston as a reliever, tossing four scoreless innings.

• Ramirez is aiming to be the first Angels pitcher since Jered Weaver in 2012 to win five consecutive road starts.

The yankees lost 8-1; if we can win this one it would help.

Finally caught them in the loss column.Long way to go and IMO it will be a cat fight right to the end. There`s not a really good team in the ALE.

Yep. Price is pitching well now needs some defense behind him. Some offense would also help out.

Say's left hip soreness on Sox website. Wonder how he got the concussion? Has been playing up until Pedroia came back. Holt moved to the 60 day DL.

Price is pitching a solid game, just not getting help from his defense or his offense. Sox need to do better than this.

Xman gun shy? Had the out at 3rd easily and elected to throw to 1st base. Might cost a run.

Price pitched decent. No help from the defense or the offense so far. 6 innings. 2 earned runs.

Farrell does what's needed.

How is that a balk? Batter called time and stepped out.

Sox offense is anemic.

I wonder if they can upgrade enough at 3B to make a difference.

It is baffling how a team which hits this inconsistently can be in first place.

One good swing wins it. One bad one ends it.

The script for this was written before the game started. What happened with Meyer yesterday was the aberration. Price had to throw a shutout. Not his fault. This offense CANNOT HIT OPPOSING STARTERS.  The only reason we're in 1st is because the NYY have been crapping their pants for the last 15 games.

I have seen perhaps 4000 baseball games in more than 60 years of watching this game in my lifetime. I have never seen a play like that where a third strike lands on top of the screen allowing a run to score.  If someone can cite another time that has happened in major league history, I would love to know about it.
