CONCUR, would be nice to get this one while resting & given others a chance to play/perform !!! thumb_u iono iono
Valezquez not missing any bats so far. 4 straight hits and 2 runs in without an out in the bottom of the 1st. Could be a very long day.

Turned out better than I expected. Only 2 runs in. Hopefully Atlanta got it out of their system. Lets go offense.
Good base running by Phillips gets the Sox a run. 2-1 after 1 1/2 innings.
Still 2-1 Braves after 3 innings.
Were we setup for failure today
Still 2-1 Braves after 4 innings. Nice play by Beni & Holt on the relay to get the out at home.
Velazquez done after 4 innings. Gave up 2 runs (both in the 1st) but did OK overall. Kept the team in the game. Leaves with the Sox trailing 2-1. Pomeranz in to pitch the 5th.
I hope Pomerantz is not put on the playoff roster. He has neither velocity nor control. He is a shadow of his former self
Pomerantz looked like he was merely going through the motions. He was infuriating to watch. He looked as if he was pitching in slow motion.
And Pomerantz has this one get away from him big time. 6-1 now and he's done. Managed to get only 1 out in the 5th.
This Atlanta pitcher beat the Sox 7-1 back in May. He beat Chris Sale. Sox only got 3 hits off him. Guess he has our number.
This game was doomed because Alex Cora rested FOUR players.
I understand resting players - but FOUR of your best??
AND why did he Velasquez out for a pinch hitter in the top of the 5th inning.
Sam Travis did nothing - Velasquez could have done the same - he had a low
pitch count - UGH.
The Sox, IMO, need to secure the AL EAST and THEN, should start
resting players.
FRUSTRATING game.
Braves 7 - Sox 1
Sox are making this interesting in the top of the 8th inning.
Bases loaded, not outs.
Swihart hits a RBI double.
Braves 7 - Sox 3
Pitching change . . .
Benni hits an RBI single.
Braves 7 - Sox 4
Pearce hits a sac fly.
Braves 7 - Sox 5
One out and one on.
Can they keep scoring?
Brandon Phillips gets on base due to an error -
Benni on third, Phillips on second - ONE out.
Ian Kinsler in to pinch hit.
Braves are changing the pitcher.
Braves 7 - Sox 5
Kinsler hits an RBI single.
Sox 7 - Braves 7
STILL one out.
KEEP IT GOING!
WOW
Xander comes in to pinch hit - draws a walk.
Bases loaded now.
Mookie in to pinch hit with the bases loaded . . .
STRIKEOUT.
Sox 7 - Braves 7
On to the bottom of the 8th inning.
Braves up 8-7 after Workman gives up a 2 out HR to Freeman. On to the 9th they go. Pomerantz giving up 5 runs really killed the Sox.
Workman the pitcher for the Sox
FREEMAN comes in to pinch hit -
home run - DANG IT!
Two quick outs and then bam . . .
Braves 8 - Sox 7
To the top of the 9th inning
Wonder why Cora put in Mookie over JBJ?
OR why not JD Martinez?
Guess they wanted Mookie in the outfield.
Game on the line and Pearce goes down looking. Well done.
Holy Cow! The new guy with a 2-run dinger!!!
OMG Brandon Phillips hits a 2 RUN HOMER with two outs in the top
of the 9th!!!!
Sox 9 - Braves 8
Kimbrel to pitch the bottom of the 9th inning . . .
Kinsler and Pearce both K. Rookie Phillips shows them how it's done.

Guess expanded rosters can help.
Argh. Kimbrel just can't avoid drama.
Wow, they pulled it off. Amazing.
STRIKEOUT!
OMG - I was about to go out
AND stayed and watched this game.
Sox WIN!
9 - 8.
This team is amazing! Even Cora's lineup and Pomerantz ineffectiveness can not stop this team😁
Workman with the win. Kimbrel with the save. Outside of Pomerantz (5 runs given up) the pitching wasn't to bad today. Another win & another game off the schedule. I said early in August I thought Phillips should come up if they needed someone. Thank goodness for expanded rosters. 53 GAMES OVER .500. Not to shabby.
Not shabby at all---kind of like a page from 2013. Look, let me be honest about this. I thought after the seventh frame when we were seemingly out of it by a score of 7-1, I conceded that this game was gone and just thankful that we went into Atlanta against a first place team and won two of three. This is a great win for us; hope they use it as a tonic to move on from here and really go on a run. We swept a very good young ream that leads the NL East and that is no walk in the park. To come back as we did, well, this team has pretty much made a believer out of me. Not completely yet, but getting there. What a win.

We were setup for failure and still won. I don't believe
Cora thought it was possible. For a team to work the
way they did...convinced Cora to use some of our better
players. It was a hell of a game.

Yeah, I originally wrote "new guy." Should have stuck with that. I didn't realize he was a veteran player trying to work his way back to the big league. Hopefully we see more of his power in coming games.

My sentiments exactly. Cora pretty much writes a lineup card to throw this game away and they put up a comeback of the year. As for Pomeranz they should leave him on the tarmac in ATL.
What a W. The NYY are down 7-0 in OAK.

I don't kn ow what happened to Pomeranz but he looks nothing the pitcher we had last season. He has poor control, keeps the ball up, lacks speed and hangs his curve. There is no way this guy can be on the playoff roster. And so far so good up in Oakland.
Now 8-0 OAK. Could be a very good night.
As DAD would say..... "SON, the magic carpet ride continues!!! " rofl rofl rofl
I did not expect the yankees to lose this game. They're getting behinder and behinder.
They've been there before and managed to beat us.
I was happily surprised to see Cora make a move in the right direction. ;D
What must be particularly worrisome for New York is that their once formidable starter Servino doesn't look good right now.
My son and I went to the game. Was having a lot of fun talking to a Braves fan behind me and we figured this was going to be a laugher for the home team. But the guy kept saying how he was worried about the bullpen. Still, with a 6 run lead, we weren't expecting much. In fact after the Braves had their big inning I jokingly said at least we can get out early and beat traffic. Of course we didn't but may have after the 8th if we hadn't scored. It was amazing, they couldn't be stopped. The best part was after two games I think we saw the entire roster of position players and most of the bullpen.
It's like I've said before, sometimes I swear Cora puts a team out thinking "I can put any combination off this roster and you'll have a tough time beating us".
With the Yankees losing, if this wasn't done before, it's done now. Magic number down to 12.

Just didn't count but in the two games we saw 11 different Sox pitchers and all 17 position players on the roster!

THe Yanks are in a rut lately, yup.
I wouldn't take Oakland lightly in the playoffs either. That is a dangerous team.
It does look that th Yankees right now look very human but we can't keep hoping they lose every second or third game they play; we have to keep the line moving and win our share of games to keep the lead, even increasing it if we can, and be able to win the AL East and prepare for the post season. Still, it has to be one game at a time and hope that when Price and Sale come back they can pitch solid enough to give us a chance this coming fall. It won't be a walk in the park for any team that makes it, but in the meantime we should put that out of our mind and worry just about the next game on our schedule. And let's enjoy this breather we have today.

The Yankees, and specifically Sanchez, looked terrible yesterday. Their pitching is suffering and they have injuries to their best reliever and best position player. I'm hoping Seattle makes a big push when they play them this weekend.

And let's keep our fingers crossed that the same thing doesn't happen to messrs Price, Sale and Rodriguez on our side. Hopefully we get back three pitchers who can carry us deep into the playoffs-----very deep if you please.

I still don't believe the Oakland A's can overtake the Yankees for the WC spot and, besides I'm more concerned that nice lead or not we keep it and win the AL East Division Title first of all before we look too far ahead. Still, it would be ironic if the A's did just that.
Sox just need to win 10 out of their next 21 games. If they do at least that, the Yanks would have to win 20 out of their remaining 22 to tie. I can't see the Sox collapsing that badly or the Yanks playing that well.

There's 2 WC spots, Fred!
A NYY/OAK 1 game playoff is in order as of today. Oakland, even if they have to go to the Bronx to play it, has the upper hand imho. Right now, NYY's best starter is Tanaka. Severino, Sabathia and the rest of their starters are struggling. Heck, it's the WC = 1 game. Anything is possible....

I'd love to see it in Oakland so whoever it is has to hop on a plane and fly back East.

Just the travails of a rabid and sometimes out of sorts Red Sox fan. I also think the Yankees are a better team than the A's and believe they could overtake us if we let down and slump but they cannot cough up 3.5 games to the A's, but it you can convince me of that I'm more than ready to listen. It would be swell for us if that did happen because I don't like the Yankees, never have and never will.
IPOT and Ted, I would love to see it go as you think it could happen. I would be elated, but I have over 70 years dealing with that team and most of the time the results have been on the minus for me. They just won too much when I was a kid and it might have scarred me a little. It has been better this century so far but old habits die hard.
I get it Fred, just poking at you!
