RED SOX V REDS
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2017, 4 PM AT GREAT AMERICAN BALL PARK
TV: NESN
BOSTON, (89-64).......................................................................................CINCINNATI, (66-88)
BOSTON:
EDUARDO RODRIGUEZ, LHP, 5-6, 4.15 ERA, 142IK
The lefty is trying to earn a spot in the post season rotation. He has pitched
better of late, giving up two earned runs or less in his last three starts. Rodriguez
is 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA on the road this season.
CINCINNATI:
ROBERT STEPHENSON, RHP, 5-5, 5.01 ERA
After struggling in his previous outing, Stephenson bounced back Sunday vs
the Pirates, allowing one hit over six scoreless innings in a 5-2 win. He wasn't
as sharp in the first three innings but made adjustments and retired 11 of his
last 12 batters.
E-Rod aims to lower Boston's magic number

As the Red Sox try to lock up the American League East division title over the second-place Yankees, they will turn to left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez to face the Reds on Saturday at Great American Ball Park. Rodriguez's last two starts will be important as he tries to win a spot in the postseason rotation.
After Friday's 5-4 win over Cincinnati, Boston is four games up on New York with nine games remaining.
The Reds will be starting rookie Robert Stephenson on the mound.
After he ended August with some rough outings, Rodriguez has been steadier in September while going 1-1 with a 2.55 ERA over his last three starts. In 17 2/3 innings this month, he has six walks and 24 strikeouts.
Stephenson has also pitched well down the stretch, and he is 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA over his past six starts. On Sunday vs. the Pirates, he pitched six scoreless innings with one hit, three walks and eight strikeouts for a 5-2 victory.
THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THIS GAME
• Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez returned to the club on Friday and started after he missed three games so he and his wife could welcome their first-born baby -- a daughter.
• Without the designated hitter and facing all right-handed starters this weekend, Hanley Ramirez will only be used as a pinch-hitter in this series. Ramirez missed a week with a left biceps injury and returned Wednesday night with two doubles and three RBIs. Mitch Moreland is expected to start all three games at first base.
• Pregame ceremonies will be held to honor the career of injured Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo, who played for both Cincinnati and Boston. Arroyo, who has been out since June with a bad right shoulder, will also perform with his band in a postgame concert on the field.

Erod looks sharp thru 4 .1-0 Sox.
Nice DP. E-rod cruising so far. Need some damn offense to support him.
Sox continue making BAD young pitchers look like CY material.3 hits thru 5 innings. Erod however continues ti impress .
There we go. That's what we needed. 3-run dinger for Moreland.
Finally, Mitch comes through.
Dumb base running error again.
Good to see Beni drive in a run in front of a lot of family and friends. So far this Erods best game of the year.lets see if he can thru the 7th for only the 2nd time in 2017.
Ah, they did score a run. I thought I saw XB come across the plate, but the score showed 4-0 when they went to commercial. Now shows 5-0.
Kind of a ho hum game. Let's keep it that way. E-rod did very well today. Smith gets the 3rd out. On to the 9th.
Looking GOOD !!! The pieces are coming together !!! Smith/Price and others !!! thumb_u rofl
JF's kid not doing so well in front of Dad with 2 BBs.
Great outing by E-Rod. Sox pitching with 3 shutouts in 4 games.
Impressive showing by Erod against a power lineup. Carson Smith will be a welcome asset to the pen in the POs.

This is how we keep the line moving---win our game and let the rest take care of the rest. Eduardo was terrific today and it is nice to know that we have three starters we can depend on for the last eight games of the regular season. Tomorrow is one time we cannot be satisfied with just winning a series because we need the hat trick for the simple reason we cannot depend on Toronto winning their series with the Yankees even though we all want to see that happen. Hope Pedroia can play tomorrow and then we can put Holt in the outfield and get Young out of that lineup once and for all. Good game today----only seven hits again but like last night we made them count---and now we're starting to hit three run homers. Three run jobs can go a long way as we saw this afternoon.
WOW!
Our Sox have won 13 of their last 15 games.
Keep going Sox!

IPOT--I'm already starting to sweat tomorrow's game because we have Doug Fister on the mound and he has returned to the lousy pitcher he was for the first month or so we got him. What a treat it would be to see him finally brace himself and twirl an outstanding game like the ones he threw against Cleveland or that gem against the Yankees, but Farrell must give him a very short rope because we haven't hit all that well in these two game even though the hits have been timely. We need a big game from Doug and a complete offensive outburst by our team. We're getting closer to where we want to be and we must keep that line moving towards that point.
