Not a lot of hope for this one. Our only chance is if the Sox score early and often.

Wow, is all I can say.  1-3 (no Mookie), Beni, Bogey, Moreland to set the table for  JDM.  No time to sit your stars, that sends the wrong message.

They've got 2 of the next 3 days off.  With the pitcher in the lineup the last couple of days they should have all the rest they need.

The opposing pitcher has one game of MLB experience, before that he was in Korea.  I'm sure he'll shut us down.

You're right markj---not too much hope.  Velasquez is one step short of garbage on the mound and has no business being on the team.  We would need a miracle to get a winning effort from that bum today.  But why is Mookie on the pine?  We need all our hitters in the lineup and I'm beginning to think that for some reason Alex Cora has gone off the deep end.  Correct me if I'm wrong but don't we have an off day tomorrow?  Yesterday if was JD who sat and today it is Mookie.  Makes no sense; these were are two big guns last season, 43 and 32 homers, 330 and 346 in BA and 130 and 82 in RBI's with the latter coming because Mookie hit leadoff all season.  I guess we have to hope for a miracle today.  Very distressing what is happening to our beloved team.

Alex is right....UNDER MOST CIRCUMSTANCES, but this is not a normal circumstance.  With each losswe fall farther and farther behind and there is no guarantee we are suddenly going to turn it on just because we're coming home.  That didn't happen in 2014 and it might not happen.  We need our best nine bats in that lineup.  One good thing, though, is that Choker Bogaerts is hitting second today which should negate his totally inept attempt to hit with key men on base where he has failed just about every time so far this season.

Maybe it's me Ted and the rest of you here, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what the hell has come over Cora.  His lineup changes the past few days defy common sense.

AGREE Fred - they don't seem to care if they win or lose.
ALMOST like these are Spring Training games.
SO DISAPPOINTED in the way this team is playing.
Starting pitching, defense and offense NEEDS major work.
SAD.Embarrassing that the defending World Series Champions have started off the season this way.

Walden comes in and gives up a double on the first pitch. Sac bunt gets the runner to third. D'backs will be on the scoreboard in the next few pitches.

Wow, really stupid base running by the D'Backs just cost them a run.

Amazing. Never thought they'd get out of that inning without giving up a run.

Walden in his first MLB at bat stood there and watched four pitches go by. Wouldn't you at least want to swing once? Maybe get lucky and hit the ball?

Two solid inning from Barnes. Just need one more good inning from the bullpen.

Swihart leaves the bases loaded by swinging at a pitch in the dirt. Sweet. Up to the BP now. No room for error.

Swihart takes yet another bad bounce in the groin area. That's 2 in this game and 3 in the last couple of games. He must be rethinking the idea of playing behind the plate.

Great, two outs and Brasier gives up a double. Tying run at 2B now. Don't want to see another walkoff.

FINALLY!
And the bullpen pitches DID their jobs.

Better than the starting pitchers . . .

Who would have thought the only bright spot of the 2019 Sox would be the pen? Maybe Cora should pull the Rays pen game more often.

Bresier closed it out in fine fashion.  The bullpen pitched outstanding baseball.  To repeat myself for the umpteenth time, the relievers were given plenty of work in ST whereas the starters weren't hence the difference.

YUP!
And you can see that they are/were prepared for the regular baseball season.

EVERYONE else seemed to be resting on their laurels.
I remember a game when Mookie and JBJ were talking about
their golf swings in the outfield (while miked.)
Another time talking about diapers.

YOU have to be prepared.

AND Alex Cora was so prepared and got the team doing the basics
in Spring Training 2018 - don't know why he chose not to do that or
something similar this Spring Training.

Like Ted said, DBack pitcher had one game of big league experience, yet pitched a gem against us, save for Moreland's round tripper.  We simply have to start stringing some hits together early on in the next week.  Saturday we got three early, and the pitching gave it back.  We'll find out soon if this team can get it all working together.

Amazing isn't it.  We all thought exactly the opposite - great starting rotation, we "know" they can hit, but oh, the bullpen!  If not for the pen they'd be even worse off - the pen has all three wins.  Velazquez was by far our most effective starter.  Go figure.

I'm going to give them a pass for this horrid start.  There's nothing we can do about it and for whatever reason a lot of other teams have had slow starts.  This road trip actually could have been worse, especially if not for Moreland who has been a key run producer on offense.  But now all the excuses are over.  They all slept in their own beds last night and again tonight and if they can't get fired up for tomorrow's game, then it's hopeless.

There have been some qualifications, some excuses, some rationalizations, all add up to nonsense.  That's the party line of losing and we have seen some of this in our less than successful seasons
(does 2012, 2014 and 2015 sound familiar?) But one thing about winning is that there needs to be none of that at all because winning speaks for itself.  Time for the team to go on a run since they will be playing many of their games at home over the next two weeks------and by run I don't mean a one or two game steak.  We need to run off four and five run streaks to make up for the stench they left in Seattle, Oakland and Arizona.  Yesterday was a start.....continue it this week.
