Cool article about reliever Ray Lamb who was issued number 42 by the Dodgers in 1969.

I get the Times every day Ted so I read the article yesterday.  Just beyond my thinking how the Dodgers ever issued that number to anyone after Jackie retired.  Oh yes, they said they stopped it the next year but that is bullshit.  They should have stopped it as soon as they saw someone wearing it.  There should have been written rules that the number 42 was not to be issued PERIOD!!!!!!!

I think between them establishing the LA identity and also that retiring numbers wasn't as big of a thing then, it was just overlooked.  But you'd think someone may have said "hey, that guy's wearing Jackie's number, didn't we retire that or something?"
