Not me.  He is fundamentally very unsound, is short of baseball smarts and is a left handed hitter.  We have too many of them now and don't need any more especially when he will lose JD this winter when he ops out of his contract, and don't be surprised if we trade Betts because we want something for him and will get zilch if we wait until he is a FA.  We cannot take that chance.

JD opting a long shot IMHO. What NL team wants a guy that is very limited in the field. That leaves only the AL which is a possibility but I doubt he will receive a long dreal worth more than 22 million and more than 3 years. We will see.......

Watching Martinez play right field the other day was painful.  He did his brand no good with a whole bunch of NL teams.

Devers missed popup costs the Sox 2 runs. Since they didn't give him an error the pitcher gets dinged with 2 earned runs.

SEEMS like this team and management don't care anymore.

FRUSTRATING for me as a fan.
I KNOW our team is not going to the postseason -
BUT, field the best team and try to win as many games as possible.

Would like to finish the season over .500.

WTF?

Come on friends, let's all of us face it.  This team has just mailed the rest of the season in.  They've quit on each other, the the town and its fans.  Frankly,  they don't give a shit anymore.  When I checked my phone I wasn't surprised to see us behind but 8-0?-----and then we got only two hits, two damn hits.  Again I come back to Spring Training and now I add that the players have quit on Cora as well and wjile they have  to share as much blame as our clueless manager, they knew his malfeasance in the Spring has caused most of the heartache and angst we're all feeling.

You know Farrell did the same thing in ST in 2014 though not as extreme as Cora's screw ups, and if you all remember we weren't ready for that season either.  Ssometimes I think we get cursed after winning it all.  Let's just say this team really stinks, sucks, smells and pukes and frankly I no longer give a shit this season.  It is over.

That was the worst performance by a Red Sox team in 5 years.

When they fired DD they sent a message to the team that the season was over.  Cora finally threw in the towel last night and didn't field Betts or Bogey.  I can't blame the players for simply going through the motions at this point, they're taking their cue from ownership.

Like Ted opined, the clubhouse is a rudderless ship post DD.  I think they should have waited DD out for 3 weeks.  With the team morale as is, I think JD will now opt out as he is a competitor.  The stand still at the trade deadline and the DD thing sends the signal for the team to virtually stand down.  I didn't think the bigger reset with him and Mookie would come this soon.  Bnut the team as a whole seems content with the 18 title, the fans not so much.

Well at least now some of you out there agree with me that JD Martinez is as good as gone and that makes us much weaker, especially against left handed pitching since we already have too many lefties in the lineup, many who can't hit any kind of decent southpaw.  And if you think that Bogaerts can be our big guy in the coming years FORGET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bogey is a good Nol 3 option but is not equipped talent wise or mental wise to be the big gun.  BTW, I think more than ever that Bets must be shipped out this winter.  For the team to think that we can win with  him in the lineup for one last rodeo and without JD, that's pure bullshit.  Time to retool and the sooner the better.

I'm not sure that JD is gone as he's shown he's a liability in the field and will have to be a DH for someone who can afford to pay for a full time DH.  The Sox are one of the few teams that have been doing that consistently since the Big Papi days while a lot of other teams rotate through the DH as a rest position.  Not a lot of teams will pay more than $20MM for a full time DH.  If he opts to stay, then they have to decide if they can get enough pitching to make it worthwhile to keep Betts or do they determine they had a good run with this core and build around Bogey and Devers.  I agree with Fred, I don't see Bogey as a kind of hitter in the JDM mold, which isn't to diminish his skills, he's just not that guy and we know you need not just one but two of those guys to make a difference.

So if they decide to rebuild, then it could be interesting to see what changes they make to what was the best outfield pretty much anywhere last year.  I could see Beni bringing a lot in trade, JBJ being of value to a small market club where he'd be a star hitting in the middle of the lineup.  Betts would have to bring a lot in value to make it worthwhile, but he would also free up some good salary dollars.

The real question though is what they have and can do with the pitching they have which is very limited.  I don't think anyone would shed a tear if the entire bullpen went away.  Who is worth keeping?  They're stuck with Sale, Price and Eovaldi (Price and Eovaldi through 2022 and Sale 2024) and can hope E-Rod has a repeat of this year.  They need a reliable starter because I don't know which of the guys they have signed long term are reliable anymore.

Exactly why they can`t afford to have Mookie around for 8 years at 30million per. It won`t be an all-out rebuild in 1 year.

I can see them moving Price and eating some of the money.
